Endoscopic Spinal Fusion in a 75-Year-Old Patient. Dr. Georgios Vastardis, MD, PhD, Spine Surgeon and Director of the Endoscopic and Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (M.I.S.S.) Clinic at IASO General Clinic, has successfully performed an endoscopic spinal fusion. The 75-year-old patient underwent a minimally invasive procedure, during which stabilization cages were placed in the intervertebral spaces through an incision of approximately one centimeter. Using the Endoscopic Surgical Technique, spinal fusion is now performed in a way that allows the patient to mobilize immediately after the procedure and quickly return to daily activities. In this study, authors compared the incidence of cystoid macular edema after vitrectomy and after phacovitrectomy in patients requiring epiretinal membrane removal. They found that Irvine-Gass syndrome appears to be triggered by crystalline lens removal itself rather than intraocular surgery or surgical trauma alone. https://lnkd.in/eahJAfVQ #Ophthalmology #ClinicalResearch #VisionScience #EyeSurgeons

Interesting 💡 Lens removal ( phaco ) itself even if uneventful , smooth & neat → is considered to trigger Irvine Gass edema. ( the procedure itself thought to release inflammatory mediators such as Prostaglandins → trigger inflammatory cascade → inflammatory macular edema (Irvine Gass syndrome)
