Kurt Godel proved that logical systems, if they are complex enough, must be incomplete -- that is, there are things which are unprovable or unknowable within them. His proof revolves around the existence of sentences that look somewhat like the self-referential "This sentence is false." There's something divine about this sort of paradox: inherently fractal-like and hinting at infinity. According to Godel, if humans are formal logic machines, we will never be able to understand crucial elements of mathematics and, consequently, the world around us. But, our ability to recognize this infinity, this "I am that I am," implies something more to our minds than just mechanics. I think that we are in a time clouded by comparisons between the mind and computers. Even Sam Altman said we are "stochastic parrots" -- an unfavorable term used to describe large language models. In this environment, I think it's easy to treat ourselves as objects, which are acted upon by outside forces, instead of subjects, projecting our own will. We lose our inner strength. In accordance with his quote below, I'd like to believe the latter. We are something more than machines; something more than stochastic parrots. Tune into the indescribable essence of your existence and feel at ease: the computer's not doing that.
