The European Commission has revealed the winners of the 2024-25 European Capital of Innovation Awards (#iCapital), celebrating a decade of recognising cities that lead the way in delivering #innovative solutions for their citizens. This year's top prizes, funded under the EU research and innovation programme Horizon Europe, were awarded to the cities of Braga and Torino. According to the European Commission, #Braga has developed a range of innovative solutions, from tech-based clusters to cultural and creative industries, and established a strong innovation #ecosystem with a focus on #collaboration and #inclusivity.  The award ceremony took place on 13 November 2024 in Lisbon at the Web Summit, one of the world's largest technology events. Commissioner Iliana Ivanova handed the awards to cities that have embedded innovation into daily urban life, advancing sustainable, inclusive, and resilient communities. The ceremony brought together the mayors from winning cities and past iCapital winners.  Braga won the award in the European Rising Innovative City category, while Torino won in the European Capital of Innovation category. We are pleased to announce that on the 10th of September we launched the third and final 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 with funding of approximately 820,000 Euros for the innovative tech-solutions tackling the urban challenges presented by European cities. What started as a collaboration among Amsterdam, Helsinki and Porto on user-centric technical solutions for different societal challenges, is rapidly becoming a large-scale effort to implement user-centric solutions across Europe. With 21 more cities joining and with 100 pilots on a variety of subjects, 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.  In addition to the partner cities of Helsinki, Porto, and Amsterdam, other European cities have now presented their unique challenges. The Replicator Cities for this last round of Open Calls are Aarhus, Bruges, Brussels, Cuneo, London, Manchester, Matosinhos, Milazzo, Plock, Prague, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Sarajevo, The Hague and Utrecht. Open & Agile Smart Cities and Communities (OASC) will support over 40 pilots and these are some of the topics that cities presented ·     How can youth interaction with public authorities be more inclusive? ·     How to empower Immigrants through targeted support tools? ·     How to reduce street harassment? ·     How to help residents to overcome poverty and debt? ·     How to improve the availability of assistive technologies for people with disabilities? ·     How to facilitate sports practice among young people with limited financial resources? ·     How can a personalised calendar empower students with autism? ·     How can new assistive technologies enable better mobility? ·     How can cultural activities be promoted among minority communities? ·     How can minors with mental health issues be supported? ·     How can a technology solution help isolated young people ·     How can tourist attractions be made accessible for all? 🚀 This year, we had an excellent experience at Viva Technology, Europe's prominent technology event, co-organized by Publicis Groupe and Groupe Les Echos-Le Parisien. The event achieved a new attendance record with 165,000 visitors (+10%) and 13,500 startups (+20%), surpassing the record-breaking 2023 edition   🌐 At Choose Paris Region, this event offered numerous opportunities. Our goal for this edition of VivaTech was to make an impact and establish Paris Region as a key tech hub. Over the three days, we engaged with 32 international delegations. We are very excited to announce the second edition of Techarena Zero, an international tech and sustainability event on October 23 in Stockholm!
