Phatisa, Masimong and Sabvest have agreed to sell their combined 100% stake in South African chemicals company Rolfes Holdings. Rinolan Moodley, senior partner at Phatisa said: “Delisting Rolfes from the JSE has allowed the business to focus on operational excellence, becoming more agile in realising both organic and inorganic strategic initiatives. Mycoprotein, derived from fermentation of Fusarium venenatum, is indeed garnering significant attention in the alternative protein market. Scale of Production: Fermenters are essential for large-scale production of mycoprotein. The size and capacity of fermenters will depend on the desired output volume, with larger fermenters being required for industrial-scale production. Fermentation Process: Mycoprotein production involves fermentation of Fusarium venenatum, which requires controlled conditions such as temperature, pH, oxygen levels, and agitation. Fermenters provide a controlled environment where these conditions can be optimized for maximum yield and quality of mycoprotein. Fermentation Time: The fermentation process for mycoprotein typically takes several days to complete. Fermenters are equipped with monitoring and control systems to ensure optimal fermentation conditions throughout the duration of the process. Sterility: Fermenters must maintain sterile conditions to prevent contamination by unwanted microorganisms, which could affect the quality and safety of the mycoprotein product. Fermenters are designed with features such as autoclaving, sterilization-in-place (SIP), and sterile air filtration systems to ensure sterility during the fermentation process. Nutrient Supply: Fermenters supply the necessary nutrients to support the growth of Fusarium venenatum during the fermentation process. Nutrient concentrations and feeding strategies may be optimized to maximize mycoprotein yield and productivity. Harvesting and Recovery: Fermenters facilitate the harvesting and recovery of mycoprotein from the fermentation broth once the fermentation process is complete. This may involve separation techniques such as centrifugation, filtration, or precipitation to isolate the mycoprotein from the fermentation medium. Overall, fermenters play a crucial role in enabling the efficient and scalable production of mycoprotein, ensuring consistent quality and meeting the growing demand for sustainable and nutritious alternative protein sources. It is only possible to change the #future if we together share an #ambition of a #sustainable and efficient #aquaculture," he added. 📌 Volumes and #revenue for the year were similar to 2022, however BioMar's #EBITDA jumped a whopping 26% year-on-year, taking into account its consolidated companies as well as #jointventures in #Turkey and #China. 💰 The group achieved a volume of 1.6 million tons, a revenue of DKK 20 billion (USD 3 billion / EUR 2.6 billion) and EBITDA of DKK 1.4 billion (USD 210 million / EUR 182 million).
