Steady progress, with strong foundations, is certainly paying off.
Reflecting on the first six months of 2024 with mixed feelings- it has been a challenging year to date, with nothing running quite as planned. Having said that, each of those hurdles have sent us off into something bigger and better. We have been successful in commencing our Farm project, securing a property on the iconic Bellarine peninsula. The second half of 2024 will see us expanding our operations internationally-state, with the roll out of our newest site in Latrobe, Northern Tasmania.

Local Place Plans (LPPs) are community-led plans that propose how land should be developed and used. They provide a chance for community stakeholders to share their ideas and aspirations for the places they live, work, and spend time. We’re extremely fortunate in Stonehaven to have had the opportunity to tap into the expertise of Pippa Robertson, a chartered planner with Aurora Planning, in helping our community deliver our Local Place Plan. Pippa shares her insights at the final event of the year for the Grampian Chapter of the Royal Town Planning Institute. #LPP #LocalPlacePlan #Stonehaven #Aberdeenshire #RTPIScotland #RTPIGrampian
The final RTPI Grampian Chapter Event for 2024 will provide insights from two perspectives on preparing a Local Place Plan. Pippa Robertson, is actively involved in helping her community advance a Local Place Plan for the town of Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire. Pippa will give insight as to the community experience bringing forward this style of community led plan. Emma Storey, will outline how Aberdeenshire Council has sought to support communities across the area to progress a Local Place Plan, in accordance with the requirements of the Planning (Scotland) Act 2019. Both speakers will discuss their experience, the challenges faced and the benefits that could come from communities having their aspirations clearly outlined within a Local Place Plan. The event will take place online. Booking info below. #RTPIScotland #RTPIGrampian #CPD #LocalPlacePlans #Communityempowerment #Communityledplans

The recent installation of handrails, made possible by generous support from The Scottish Government, Scottish Borders Council, and the Place Based Investment Fund, is a significant step forward in creating a safer, more welcoming space for all who work, live, and visit our town. The project, expertly delivered by SBC CONTRACTS following a competitive tendering process, reflects our commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and access. When you're having a call with a state agency and they ask what you do, and you tell them, and they tell you, wow! In Walla Walla? Yes, in Walla Walla! Small communities can do big things. And more investment helps us grow good ideas into all-out triumphs. My next focus, once the building purchase and renovation is done, is to start working on implementation guides and toolkits. More communities should see what we've accomplished out here with many hands and a shared commitment to the people in front of us.

On Monday Natalya Garrod (Owner and Principal Planner of Sumac EP) had the pleasure of attending the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Caldwell First Nation and Parks Canada at Point Pelee National Park. The MOU speaks to Caldwell's future role in the proposed National Ojibway Urban Park in Windsor & LaSalle in Southwestern Ontario. This was a very exciting day for Caldwell as they have spent the last year and a half working towards an MOU that establishes a strong relationship with Parks Canada and one that enables the nation to nation relationship build on the principles of mutual respect, shared decision-making, and recognition of Caldwell First Nation's inherent jurisdiction and authority. https://lnkd.in/ezvxrttJ Every word was carefully considered and reconsidered. It was not always a smooth process but when people came together to the table with the right intentions that is where progress was made. The key lessons Natalya learned throughout the process: 1. Interpersonal relationships move things along much faster than any tactic. 2. Set realistic expectations for what can be achieved. Small starts get the ball moving. 3. Show up to the table in person and share a meal. This allows for fulsome conversations that can't be had over an email. This is where true understanding occurs. 4. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again. The strong spirit of Caldwell First Nation is what got them to this point in the process and they have so much more they are going to achieve.
