@ It is worth to know as a case-study project: The designer mention some points he consider: He deals with the said project seriously and create a high professional work! ("What we want to do is reduce isolation for people that have a disability, to encourage them to not be in their unit but to come out to social space." The interior courtyard, which features curvaceous planting beds and seating, is oriented on a north-south axis, exposing it to more sun in the winter and more shading in the summer. Each private balcony is located along the building's front and back facades, while windows placed in the kitchens look out over the interior space.)

PLACEMAKING: RULES OF THUMB 1. Encourage businesses and the community to psychologically reclaim the space as part of their retail/home space 2. Visually break ‘corridors’ into a series of ‘outdoor living rooms’ 3. Remove traffic artefacts that send message that space is primarily for cars 4. Provide furniture that is movable 5. Replace ‘decorative seating’ with ‘social seating’ (encouraging interaction) 6. Use ‘eddy spaces’ (dead spaces outside pedestrian flow) to create linger nodes that slow the flow of people through the space 7. Make everything you create ‘playable’ – engaging for children and adults 8. Blur the boundaries between functions; don’t be afraid of ambiguity 9. Work with what you have, not what you wish you had 10. #Placemaking is a philosophy and an iterative, collaborative process. There is a depth that many people don't appreciate if they are just looking at the surface layers or visible outcomes. Here is a list 10 placemaking tips from David Engwicht via Seth Kaplan, underpinned by decades of experience, observation, learning and wisdom. Notice how many of these tips relate to the psychology and sociology of public spaces. "Placemaking is a psychological task", says David, who leads Creative Communities International.
