The water industry is experiencing a unique set of challenges, particularly with the advent of AMP8. As contractors scramble to meet the rigorous demands of this exciting period, the competition for skilled talent has never been fiercer. With everyone seeking similar expertise, the talent pool feels more like a puddle. The rush to secure top talent has revealed a significant issue: we are in the midst of a talent shortage. This scarcity not only threatens the timely completion of projects but also the quality of work and innovation that our industry prides itself on. So, what can we do to attract and retain the skilled professionals we so desperately need? Here are a few strategies to consider: Competitive Compensation and Benefits: Ensure your packages are not just competitive but also appealing. Talented professionals know their worth, and companies must be willing to offer attractive salaries, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for growth. Invest in Training and Development: Develop robust training programs that not only enhance current skill sets but also provide opportunities for career advancement. A tangible commitment to continuous learning can make your company a preferred destination for top talent. Flexible Work Arrangements: The pandemic has reshaped our approach to work. Flexible working conditions, including remote work options and flexible hours, can be a significant draw for potential hires. Promote Work-Life Balance: In a high-demand industry, burnout is a real risk. Encouraging a healthy work-life balance can make your company more attractive to candidates who seek long-term stability and satisfaction in their roles. Treat your recruiters as an extension of your business: Now, there is some bias in this one however I promise it's valid. When competition is high first impressions count. Enable your recruitment partners to provide a great first impression by furnishing them with as much information as possible. Candidates in this industry are not 'looking for work' but instead comparing multiple opportunities - help us show why yours is the best! Let’s open up this conversation: What can companies do to help stand out? What strategies have you found effective in attracting and retaining top talent during these challenging times? How can we collectively address the talent shortage in the water industry? #WaterIndustry #WaterTreatment #MEICA #ThamesWater #SouthernWater #SouthEastWater #AffinityWater #SevernTrent #WessexWater #Recruitment #AMP8 #AMP7 #SouthWestWater

We recently placed a Project Development Manager at one of Australia’s leading renewable Energy and Waste organisations. The mandate required a unique Waste to Energy (WtE) skill set (particularly in BioGas and AD), for the position that was to be based in Western Sydney. A lack of relevant experience in the Sydney market made the location a key pain point for the organisation. In addition, the organisation lacked effective employer branding to attract candidates. Candidates approached were often unaware of the company or what they did. The organisation lacked effective employer branding, with many candidates unaware of the business or what they did. This was also due to the organisation's key focus on waste management. North Search conducted a detailed market map of interested candidates before enrolling them in our proven search process. The time lapsed from the initial search to candidate start date was roughly 10 weeks. Another successful outcome for Paddy Delany & Jessica Tran 👏 Kudos! #ProjectDevelopmentManager #RecentPlacement #ExecutiveSearch #TechnicalSearch
