It has been great to work with our policy group over the past few months to co-produce this report on accessibility in venues for people with visual impairment. Find out more by downloading our report below and spread the word using the hashtag #AccessibleVenues.
We are calling for all venues to collaborate with us to improve their accessibility for people with visual impairment. With upcoming summer events happening across Scotland, such as the Edinburgh Fringe, Sight Scotland is launching our Accessible Venues Report. Accessible venues are key for people with visual impairment. This is a campaign devised and led by Sight Scotland’s policy group with the aim of letting venues across Scotland know that small changes can have a big impact! Alternating Currents is the kind of event that makes me proud to be a Quad Citizen. It's the type of festival that raises the bar in creativity and provides an authentic community experience. I've been fortunate to work on a lot of really cool projects in my career. AC is by far my favorite. It speaks to my soul because as a young girl, living in a small town, it would have meant the absolute world to me to have this type of access to arts activations in my community. The growth of this event is limitless but it's going to need more engagement from the business community. If your company is interested in quality of place initiatives for the Quad Cities, #ACQC is a great way to show support. It's the only bi-state, multi-city festival of its kind. YOUR SUPPORT HELPS: + Invest in an all-ages vibrant arts culture, inspiring young people to see the Quad Cities as an amenity-rich place where all can thrive. + Activate the heart of our cities; a critical component to the Quad Cities’ ability to attract and retain families, young professionals and workforce. + Support local small businesses by investing in activations that not only directly impact sales over the festival weekend, but provide greater visibility for new customer discovery. + Draw visitors from across the Midwest and beyond to spend money here and become advocates for the Quad Cities. + Foster growth and champion the next gen of local talent. A myriad of opportunities are available, showcasing how local businesses can align themselves with this dynamic festival to not only gain exposure but also contribute to the community's cultural enrichment. Shoot me a message if you'd like to learn more about how to get involved!

As Autumn sets, I have been reflecting on summer and particularly the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. As a resident I have to admit it, I don’t like the Fringe. The city comes to a standstill, you can’t get anything done or go anywhere and there are just people everywhere. But, as a businessman, I cannot deny how much money the Fringe brings into the Scottish economy. The Edinburgh Fringe is the biggest arts and cultural event in the world. After the Olympics and Football World Cup, it is the third highest ticketed event in the world. So, it’s not going anywhere. And why should it? There has been a big drive to reduce access to the Fringe recently, remove investment and make it smaller. But Fringe showcases Scotland to the world. Why would we try and slow down the one month that has more impact on the city than all the other months combined - every single year? If anything, we need to be investing more into it. It needs better management, I think everyone can agree with that. There needs to be a way to allow for sustainable growth and a correct distribution of profits from the festival. But it can’t end. Fringe needs to be allowed to flourish, so Edinburgh can continue to flourish.

Crowd control and patron safety are a big part of planning your event. How you design your queue can make your event memorable for the right reasons or the wrong reasons. Brett Little, People Movement Lead in the UK with Arup, dives into the science of safely moving large groups with The Wall Street Journal. His insights are invaluable for anyone in event planning, highlighting the critical aspects of crowd control that are often overlooked. Whether you're organizing a concert, rally, a sports game, or a community festival, BroadFence can provide the barricades and queuing systems you need, delivered to your location within 48 hours. To all my contacts and followers please just click on the link in the LCRCA post and express your support for #AshwellMotors ❤️👏 Make sure you also stand up and Have Your Say for the survival of #AshwellMotors who are at risk of closing, after 40 years serving the local community, unless the LCRCA and LCC actively listen to and agree the owner’s credible proposals for designated customer parking. Section 278 of the Highways Act 1980 is an enabler to fund this, as it’s intention is to mitigate the impact of developments on the local community! #nobodyleftbehind in #regeneration is what the #planforprosperity clearly states - this is probably the first test of that plan!
