👉 Exciting news! We finally got the report from the BASt correlation trails in Germany where we participated with our Falling Weight Deflectometer back in March. BASt is the Research institute in the department of the Federal Ministry of Transport. BASt decided in 2015 to run a yearly FWD comparative test on their premises to create the basis for a permanent and recurring organization for comparative measurements. Now to the results 📊 From the report, our Dynatest Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD13) had no issues in any of the analyzed indexes: repeatability, comparability, and temperature. In terms of repeatability, the graph shows the results for one of the tested positions. Repeatability is one of the most important values to verify since it evaluates the different deflections achieved on the same spot by following drop applications. If the values differ too much, it would be an indication of a badly conducted measurement. ✔ The data from our Dynatest FWD (FWD13) can be seen as very repeatable, where the smaller the value the better. Road measurement technology has come a long way and ARRB Systems is proud to have been at the forefront of this transformation. Various technologies have been used to measure structural road characteristics over the years.   The Benkelman Beam was developed in the mid-20th century, this device was one of the first to measure road surface deflection. Though simple and low-cost, it required manual operation and was time-consuming.   Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) technology was introduced in the 1970s, and provided a more accurate method for evaluating pavement structural capacity by simulating moving wheel loads. It allowed for large-scale assessments, however is time-consuming and requires the closure of road networks to complete the testing.   ARRB Systems’ innovation, the iPAVe®, integrates advanced sensors including doppler laser technology, laser profiling, ground-penetrating radar and high-definition video imagery. The iPAVe® offers comprehensive, traffic-speed assessments of both functional and structural pavement conditions, significantly improving data quality and operational efficiency. The first iPAVe® was up and running in 2014, with the initial contract collecting data for the Queensland, NSW and New Zealand State Road Agencies. Various road agencies across the globe utilise iPAVe® technology to enhance their road network assessment and maintenance strategies.
