What may be most surprising about IDSVA is the strong sense of community, despite the fact that IDSVA is largely a distance-learning program. The intensive residencies are designed to enhance a sense of communal belonging among members of a cohort and their faculty. The shared meals, museum visits, and travels together forge a bond that carries over into the virtual seminars and discussions of the online semesters. So much to say about this project: 1.) We had an engaged client who trusted us to take risks 2.) We aligned clearly on vision from the get-go 3.) We had gorgeous content to design around and be inspired from And I think it’s paid off. We won an award. We’re getting some attention through various industry channels. It’s nice to feel validated, but the secret sauce was this: we had a client who shared our values. We’ve been talking a lot internally about our superpowers, our stories and values. One thing remains consistent: We believe the mundane can be marvelous. That being status quo is actually riskier than digging for authenticity. That brands who are brave and have a POV will always cut through the noise. Kudos to our amazing clients, friends and collaborators over at The Mansion. If you are local and a history buff, please do yourself a favor and visit (or at least poke around the site’s virtual tour!) The Louise Steinman von Hess Foundation entrusted Bom Bom to create a unique website for Wright’s Ferry Mansion, an 18th-century historic house museum. Because of its close quarters and faithful historic preservation, visitation is limited. To serve those unable to visit the property, an interactive experience was created to offer a rich digital journey through the Mansion. We’re pleased to announce that we’ve won an Honorable Mention Award from awwwards.com for our work on this project, and the site is being featured on siteofsites.co! In the spirit of “sharpening the saw”, I participated in a Design Thinking DC field session for the National Museum of American History this week. Question: How might we create a more inviting and engaging Constitution Ave entrance? So great to flex my DT muscles IRL with creative designers! #designthinking #smithsonian #creativity #brainstorming #prototyping
What a thrill for our DT:DC community to partner with the amazing Mike Denison, Head of Design for the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of American History, to reimagine the Constitution Avenue entrance of the museum to make it a more inviting, connected, and inclusive public space. A big thank you to our brilliant workshop leaders, Evan Chan and Fabiola Alvarez Yurcisin who spent hours preparing an insightful and inspiring experience and to Caitlin Anderson for managing all the details. The energy and creativity of the group was contagious. Here's a glimpse of what we achieved: 🔹 Fresh, innovative ideas to enhance the visitor experience 🔹 Collaborative designs that reflect the museum's rich heritage 🔹 A renewed sense of community and shared vision Finally, a huge shoutout to everyone who participated and contributed their unique perspectives. #DesignThinking #Innovation #MuseumDesign #Smithsonian #Collaboration #Creativity

#WikiWEEX Did you know who was the first to introduce the topic of accessibility in the museum world? In the 1920s, John Cotton Dana was the director of the Newark Museum, a prominent museum just outside New York City that remains open today. Today, Dana is remembered as one of the first to develop significant reflections on accessibility and the sense of community that every museum should aim to promote. Among his famous quotes: “A department store, easily accessible and open at all hours, perhaps tells us more than a good art museum and all the museums we have created so far.” If you are interested in learning more about accessibility in exhibition design, don't miss our dedicated training program. The first course will focus on exhibition design, and registration is now open. 📍 Course: Progettare per le persone: allestimenti accessibili 14-16 Febraury 2025 🔗 [LINK] https://lnkd.in/dDdUCCTd - #WeExhibit #AskWeex #ArtIsInTheProcess #WEEXFormazione #TrainingSeries #Formazione #ExhibitionDesign #ExhibitDesign

To be continued... an episode on Heritage Museum project ⬇ Between the imagined idea and reality lies the construction. The conceptualization of an idea, which emerges after researching potential spatial scenarios, is followed by the impact of reality. HOW ARE WE GOING TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN? 😱 In projects with a high degree of cultural heritage protection, especially those that have endured the inevitable consequence of time, we have realized that construction is THE silent partner. 🤝

When Glenn Lowry, the director of The Museum of Modern Art, confesses to sleepless nights worrying about the institution's finances, it's a wake-up call to the art world: The road ahead for museums is paved with innovation, risk-taking, and an openness to failure, as they reassess traditional funding models and public engagement strategies. In a recent Museums Journal feature, Aurelie and Leslie explore this landscape of uncertainty and delve into the pressing need for systemic change in the arts sector. Key Takeaways: ▶ Transparency isn't just a virtue—it's a powerful tool for building trust and securing long-term support. ▶ Inviting donors to understand the real challenges we face can lead to more meaningful engagements and investments. ▶ Navigating the arts funding crisis requires innovative thinking and a shared vision for the future. The strategies we adopt today will define the cultural legacy we leave for tomorrow. What steps can we take to ensure that museums remain vital centers of culture and education? How can we creatively address financial constraints while staying true to our missions? Thank you, Museums Association, for echoing these questions. Join the conversation and help us pave the way towards a more sustainable and collaborative future for museums. #Art #Philanthropy #Museums #ArtsandCulture #ArtWorld #GivingBack #Sustainability

What is a museum, really? 🤔 The ICOM says it’s a “permanent institution in the service of society… fostering diversity and sustainability… accessible, inclusive, and participatory.” The Museums Association says it’s a place for “Inspiration, learning, and enjoyment… holding collections in trust for society.” A recent 5-star reviewer of the Natural History Museum said it’s “a fascinating and awe-inspiring place…the perfect spot for both a fun and education experience”. After reading so much about museums, it’s got me curious… And now I’m asking LOADS of questions about it: Is there a limit to the size of a museum? (Could I create a “museum” in a shoebox? Could a city itself be classed as a museum?) Where does a museum’s “status” start and stop? What if a digital museum is down for maintenance—does it stop being a museum for that time? And where do the boundaries lie between a museum and an archive? (Hoping someone in my network can help with this one!) And then there's the old-school vs. new-school approach to museums—do we prioritise preservation or the public experience? How does that affect the definition of a museum? I’d love to hear what you think! 🏛️ #MuseumDebate #Museums #Heritage #Curator
