7 African startups have been named as finalists for the 2024 ASME Innovation Showcase in Nairobi. These startups are working on affordable, sustainable hardware technology solutions across various sectors including agriculture, energy, healthcare, and transportation. The finalists will be pitching their innovations for a chance to win a share of US$30,000 in grant awards and technical support to bring their impactful solutions to market. The event, hosted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, will take place on June 19 in Kenya.
Among the finalists are Kenyan ventures Adumu and Megagas Alternative Energy Enterprise, Ugandan startups Che Innovations and Neosave Technologies, Tanzania’s Afya Lead, Ghana’s MeSADA, and Zambia’s Yaaka Investment. Each startup is pioneering innovative solutions, from biodiesel-fueled cooking systems to medical devices for newborn care, with the aim of addressing critical challenges in their respective fields.
