The thing I hear the most when making portraits is: “I don’t like my picture being taken.” In these moments I remind myself:  Photography is memory. If the person looks at the photograph afterwards and remembers having a good experience they will naturally enjoy the photograph more. One way to do this is by making the actual space calm and enjoyable. This is such an important part of portrait photography. Portraiture is often about creating a clean and comfortable space between the two people on either end of the lens. The photo shoot is the interplay between the photographer and subject - it’s movement, a dance if you like My job as the photographer is to understand and interpret this movement and help shape the energy to create the required atmosphere. If I can create a good experience, then the photograph will be a way to remember it. Plus, we always look good when we’re relaxed and enjoying ourselves!

World Photography Day is a globally observed annual celebration that honours photography's art, craft, science, and history. A photograph can uniquely encapsulate a location, an experience, an idea, or a specific moment in time.
