As part of celebrating the International Day of #Planthealth, we're looking back on #SeedHealth milestones from the last 100 years. The International Seed Health Initiative (ISHI) for Vegetable Crops was created in 1993 to provide a forum for exchanging information, sharing expertise on seed health testing and facilitating the development of new seed health tests. ISHI brings together seed companies, public sector institutions, and private laboratories to develop seed health tests for economically important pathogens associated with seed. Today, ISHI members account for 70-75% of vegetable seed that is traded internationally. I’m delighted to share the latest research by my PhD student, Nur Ajijah! I'd also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all co-authors for their incredible support and insightful contributions: Angelika Fiodor, PhD; Krzysztof Kazimierczuk; Monika Urbaniak; Elsie Enow; Robert Stasiuk; Lukasz Stepien; Lukasz Dziewit You can find the pre-proof version of the manuscript here: https://lnkd.in/dp5M5yut Our recent study uncovers an exciting method for protecting wheat crops from Fusarium infections through the use of beneficial microbes. By co-culturing Pseudomonas protegens ML15 and Trichoderma koningiopsis Tr21, we achieved greater inhibition of the harmful fungus Fusarium cerealis compared to individual cultures. This approach not only combats the infection but also enhances wheat growth. These findings offer promising solutions for more sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices and global food security. #sustainableagriculture #biocontrol #planthealth

Banan Al-Shagour, our colleague from National Agricultural Research Center - NARC المركز الوطني للبحوث الزراعية , was in Spain at #CIAPA to learn about the artificial infestation of worker bees with Nosema. If you want to understand a disease, you can't just rely on field work. In the field, there are always so many different factors that influence what you see. In the lab, you have things more under control. For instance, giving a defined amount of a parasite (𝘕𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘮𝘢 spores in this case) to study how different parameters influence the course of the disease. #MEDIBEES #beescience #beehealth

Did you know that #soil treated with a blend of 1,3-D (#TELONE™) and chloropicrin and can help #improve your soil beyond the benefit of targeting plant parasitic #nematodes and soil-borne diseases? Research shows that beneficial root-colonizing #bacteria Bacillus and Pseudomonas—which produce plant-active hormones—often increase with this fumigant blend. In other words, using a TELONE™/pic blend ahead of planting helps target destructive plant parasitic nematodes—allowing developing roots to thrive—while allowing #beneficialbacteria to flourish! Now that's a win-win. Want to learn more? Potato is a major food crop in the tropical regions of Africa. However, potato yields continue to remain very low in these regions mainly due to use of poor quality seed. Do you know importance of using certified seed of potato on yield among farmers?,Study found the following positive effects of using certified seed:☑️Varietal purity ☑️Clean seed from seed borne pathogens ☑️Proof of your parent seed varietal identity ☑️Traceability ☑️ New genetics (for improving traits) ☑️Guaranteed Quality assuarance #Qualityseed #Certifiedseed #KEPHIS
