It was fascinating to analyze how family offices approach investments differently than traditional venture capital firms. One key takeaway was their preference for more traditional assets at this stage. However, it’s clear they are cautiously exploring opportunities within the Web3 space. 🔍 As the Web3 industry matures, gaining more professional traction and a proven track record, I foresee a significant shift. I believe we will see a growing interest from family offices in gaining exposure to innovative companies in this sector. 🚀 Exciting times ahead as the landscape evolves! Yesterday I joined Ocean 14 Capital for their first agm. Full disclosure - one of founders is my partner Chris Gorell Barnes but this is not just a #humblehusbandbrag In covid they decided to try and raise £200m to invest in open innovation - building the blue economy as a sector and showing how impact, profit and innovation come together. I have watched with admiration as the founders pulled this off in a tough climate. Things i learnt watching them over last 3 years are : - insane persistence to raise the money - hundreds of calls, incredible research and dogged determination - using this platform to make new contacts and never giving up on people who don’t respond the first time - Total focus on their mission - oceans, oceans, oceans - an understanding of the science (we save the oceans, we save the world) matched with an ability to see the whole picture - an approach that has tried to create whole ecosystem through brilliant marketing, linking companies together and working closely with the other organisation 2 of the founders started @bluemarinefoundation
