Professor Bruno Carmo gave an interview to Pesquisa FAPESP magazine about research into reducing pollutant emissions from oil rig support vessels. The professor explains that, based on real data, mathematical-computational models of the power system of this type of vessel were developed. The models were then operated with the same parameters that real ships were operating with. They found that the results were the same and then used the models to optimize the use of the generators. This resulted in a reduction in both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Do you want to know more about the Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Innovation (RCGI) research? Establishing justice in the energy sector necessitates moving beyond theoretical discussions to practical implementation. It took policy makers a significant amount of time to realize that corporate social responsibility cannot be achieved without enforcing reporting mechanisms. Similarly, justice in the energy sector cannot be attained without applying the Energy Justice Milestone Reports. This is where Prof. Raphael Heffron, along with other experts, has written an insightful piece on the role of justice in shifting accountability and responsibility within the energy sector. The article is published in Nature Energy. Here is the link to the article: https://lnkd.in/gdnEuved

Download the free version of our article that reached 2,500 reads and 69 citations on ResearchGate: https://lnkd.in/ehQS3ex Article: The synergistic effects of hydrogen embrittlement and transient gas flow conditions on integrity assessment of a precracked steel pipeline, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Vol. 45, Issue 35, 2020, Pages 18010-18020. The presence of cracks may provoke pipeline failure and hydrogen leakage. The auto-ignition of hydrogen leaks, although small, leads to a flame that is difficult to see. The latter makes such a phenomenon extremely dangerous as explosions became very likely to happen. This paper presents a reliable method that can be used to predict the acceptable defect to reduce risks caused by pipe failure due to hydrogen embrittlement. The presented model considers the synergistic effects of transient gas flow conditions in pipelines and hydrogen embrittlement of steel material due to pressurized hydrogen gas permeation. It highlights the importance of predicting and controlling transient flow phenomena. #hydrogenembrittlement #hydrogen #pipelines #oilandgas #energy #mechanicalemgineering #gas

GTI Energy’s Shadi Salahshoor, Ph.D., and Shaik Afzal, Ph.D. will bring their expertise on underground hydrogen storage to the American Geophysical Union's #AGU24 next week! As hydrogen emerges as a key energy carrier for the transition to a low-carbon system, large-scale, long-duration storage is essential. Geologic storage has proven effective, but scaling these solutions to industrial levels requires overcoming significant hurdles. After presenting key developments from our #SUSTAINH2 initiative, Shadi will chair a session focused on enabling field-scale demonstrations to bridge the gap to industrial deployment. During this session, Shaik will present research on subsurface storage potential and the techno-economic challenges involved in advancing hydrogen as a clean energy solution.
