🤬🤬 An 'inactive' oil rig is spilling oil for miles along the Galveston coast. It is beyond unbelievable that a company can just leave this infrastructure to rot. Very infuriating. Activists get lengthy prison sentences for peaceful protest and these guys can destroy entire ecosystems. Start putting CEOs in jail. 📖 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gAYV28nR Image: KPRC Click2Houston

'Stunts' by activists are becoming more frequent and increasingly targeting a broader set of organisations with no apparent link to the cause the groups avow. Effective security risk management can help mitigate the likelihood of being targeted and can support effective responses should an incident occur. A critical first step is threat assessment and monitoring - you can't counter a threat until you know it exists. Drop me a line if you need any help identifying and assessing activist threats. A synagogue burned out. In Melbourne. Australia. I must ask again: do you see it yet, world? Do you see what hate leads to? For over a year antisemitic hatred has simmered, and now the pot is boiling over. Karl Popper’s ‘Paradox of Tolerance’ has never been more relevant than at the present moment: “Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them...for it may easily turn out that they are not prepared to meet us on the level of rational argument, but begin by denouncing all argument; they may forbid their followers to listen to rational argument, because it is deceptive, and teach them to answer arguments by the use of their fists or pistols. We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant.” —The Open Society and Its Enemies You have no idea how much I hate that what I feared would come to pass, is now well on its way. To the terrified and the wounded of Melbourne’s Jewish community, you have my unequivocal support from half the world away. We will drive this ancient hate back into the darkness. History shall not repeat a SINGLE SECOND MORE. NEVER again. #fightantisemitism #neveragainisnow
In a violent antisemitic attack, Molotov cocktails were thrown at the Adass Israel synagogue in Melbourne, one of Australia's busiest synagogues. Two people were injured and the firebombs destroyed much of the building. We call on law enforcement to work quickly to arrest the perpetrators. We firmly stand with the Australian Jewish community. Their pain is our pain. https://lnkd.in/ey6ybMk8

🚨 Scandle in the UK “Post Office Scam” The only positive is justice has eventually been served. It’s not only Crypto 🇬🇧 UK Post Office Scandal Overview: Senior figures from the Post Office, Fujitsu, and the government face scrutiny over what is considered the UK's largest miscarriage of justice. 🇬🇧Faulty computer software called Horizon led to incorrect calculations, resulting in over 900 sub-postmasters and postmistresses wrongly prosecuted for stealing money from post office branches. 🇬🇧The Post Office, along with other bodies, prosecuted individuals between 1999 and 2015, with many facing imprisonment, financial ruin, and personal hardships. 🇬🇧 In 2017, a legal action by 555 sub-postmasters led to a £58m compensation agreement in 2019, but significant portions were consumed by legal fees. 🇬🇧 As of January 15, 2024, only 95 convictions have been overturned, and a Metropolitan Police investigation into potential fraud offenses is ongoing. 🇬🇧The Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) labeled it the most widespread miscarriage of justice, leading to a public inquiry chaired by Sir Wyn Williams starting in February 2021. - The scandal gained public attention through the ITV drama "Mr Bates vs the Post Office" in January 2024. 🇬🇧 Fujitsu's Horizon System: The Japanese company Fujitsu developed the Horizon system in 1999 for accounting and stocktaking tasks, later adopted by the Post Office. Sub-postmasters raised concerns about bugs in the system, which falsely reported significant shortfalls, causing financial distress and legal actions. Despite past issues, the Post Office continues to use the Horizon system, describing the latest version as "robust." 🇬🇧Impact on Post Office Staff: Many sub-postmasters and postmistresses claim the scandal devastated their lives, leading to personal and financial ruin. Contractual responsibilities placed the burden of unexplained losses on individuals, forcing some to use personal funds for non-existent shortfalls. Consequences included bankruptcies, lost livelihoods, broken marriages, and reported health issues, addiction, and premature deaths linked to the stress of the scandal. https://lnkd.in/d9gUu-Xk
