Ever tried juggling multiple ventures? Where you're REALLY invested in the success of both, not just a silent partner? That's my current state. Working damn hard on The Farrell Group at REAL Broker and CHS Happenings. And while I'm pleased with the growth of CHS Happenings--I passed 800 subscribers this morning--I'm only 7 weeks in. That's another way of saying The Farrell Group continues to be the vehicle for paying the bills. 😉 Since I switched after 31 years as a commercial real estate agent to residential 3 years ago, I've come to realize one thing: I overvalued all that experience in my head. Mastering the intricacies of THE most complex real estate contract on the planet (the retail lease)? Delivering for huge pension fund clients and small developers time and time again? Learning the best ways to develop new business? Growing relationships with tons of people by being authentic and empathetic? Knowing how to advance deals, day by day, in insanely long cycles? This really doesn't hold much weight for residential clients. So many homeowners and buyers make the strangest, most inexplicable decisions. With the largest investment of their lives. They hire their sister's cousin's college roommate. 🙄 I'm exaggerating. A bit. And hopefully this isn't coming off as a screed or whining. I definitely don't intend it that way. But it IS mind-blowing to me that homeowners and buyers can be so rational in virtually all of their other financial decisions...and not this biggie. Why do you think this is? That's ok, if I've developed anything in these past 34 years, it's a s#itload of resilience. Kim Farrell and I will continue to do successfully what we have the past 3 years. Commit to professionalism, serve clients well, and develop new relationships. In family businesses, our roots run deep, and the legacy of those before us continues to guide and inspire us. In #difficulttimes, it’s easy to think about giving up—leaving the country, changing paths, or finding something easier. But this is exactly when we need to hold on the most. I often think about the #struggles of my father, grandfather, and #ancestors. Their resilience was built on family values, hard work, and unity. They didn’t just build businesses: for over a century and a half, they built legacies—starting from the ground up with #passion and the belief that no challenge was too big to overcome. And here we are today, facing our own challenges. We must remember, these moments define us. #Quitting has never been an option, not for them, and not for us.
