East Europe Foundation (EEF)’s Post

May 8 is traditionally observed as the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, a solemn occasion to honor the victims of World War II and foster reconciliation among the nations involved. However, it seems the world has yet to fully grasp the lessons from the catastrophe that engulfed two-thirds of humanity.   For us, the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation takes on a profound significance. As we commemorate this day, we find ourselves not just remembering the past, but actively safeguarding our families from the ongoing Russian invasion. In doing so, we stand as a bulwark against aggression, protecting the very existence of the civilized world, and fighting for the opportunity to construct a robust security architecture.   The events of the past and the ongoing war in Ukraine represent a heart-wrenching tragedy. The echoes of millions of terrified, lost, and suffering voices reverberate in our hearts. Merely remembering is insufficient: it is incumbent upon each one of us to take action to prevent such atrocities in the future.
