When you need a break, take it. “No” is a complete sentence. It is not your responsibility to hold the weight of the world but your voice holds the power to change it! As we wrap up Disability Pride Month, we’re leaning into Care Work: Dreaming Disability Justice by Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha. Citing Patty Berne’s “10 Principles of Disability Justice” as a grounding text within in the disability justice movement, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha encourages femme, disabled, queer, and trans community leaders to reframe their relationship to labor. At The LP, we’re community-centered, POC-centered, and propelled by love. With disability justice frameworks in mind, giving grace, honoring our capacity, and supporting our fam is built into the fabric of our work. Reflect & Share: How do you affirm your boundaries? #NationalDisabilityIndependenceDay is celebrated every year today, July 26th. In order to plot a more intentional course toward systemic change that achieves the inclusion, access, liberation and economic health and wellbeing of disabled women and families, we’re sharing the National Partnership for Women & Families’ Disability Economic Justice Systems Transformation Guide. It examines the systemic barriers that disabled women, particularly disabled Women of Color, and their families face in obtaining and maintaining employment. As we celebrate the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act this month, we also recognize the necessary strides we still need to make toward full inclusion and equity for disabled people. Celebrating International Human Rights Day! Today, we stand together to honour the principles of dignity, freedom, and equality that underpin human rights for all. It's a day to reflect on the ongoing fight for justice and inclusion worldwide. One of the most crucial aspects of human rights is recognizing the inherent dignity and worth of every individual, including those with disabilities. Disability rights are human rights, and the challenges faced by disabled individuals are often deeply intertwined with broader issues of social justice, equality, and access. Let's remember: accessibility is not just a privilege—it’s a fundamental right! Ensuring everyone can participate fully in society, regardless of ability, is essential for a fair and just world. This International Human Rights Day, let’s amplify the voices of those with disabilities and advocate for policies that empower them. Together, we can create a society that recognizes and champions the rights of all individuals. 💪❤️ #HumanRightsDay #DisabilityRights #Inclusion #EqualityForAll #AccessForAll

Today is Human Rights Day. This year’s theme, 'Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now', calls for urgent action. Human rights empower us to build a more inclusive, equal, and sustainable world. Globally, one in five people have a disability. Yet, barriers in work, study, and daily life remain all too common. Equal rights and opportunities are fundamental. For people with disabilities, this means: - Breaking down barriers to accessibility - Promoting dignity and autonomy - Ensuring full participation in society Australia has ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), which applies a human rights lens to disability. We also have the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA). This promotes equal rights, access, and opportunity for people with disabilities. Not sure what the DDA covers? Here’s a helpful guide from the Australian Human Rights Commission: https://buff.ly/4f8nexp On this Human Rights Day, let’s reflect on how we can create a society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. #HumanRightsDay #Inclusion #Accessibility

Interesting article. How can we apply lessons from this to Theaters, Museums, Parks, and other cultural spaces/places?
In a recent article, Beyond Disability: Inclusive Marketing in an Intersectional World new data from our partners at Nielsen shows that gaps in disability representation remain stark, that disabled people feel underrepresented and misrepresented in media, and that our community expects brands to support causes aligned with our interests.
