Social media has created a new dichotomy in our lives where the real and reel parts are always diverging. Instead of people sharing their good, bad and ugly stories, people carefully pick only those parts where they are in a good light because social media has this power of amplifying anything you share and no one wants their vulnerable self to be amplified to the public. Issue is this behaviour change has started percolating into the other settings which are not necessary online. In the last one month I had one on one interaction with my team across all levels and my approach has been to always start the conversation with knowing what is happening in their personal lives. Even though I have limited power to improve the personal lives of anyone other than mine, my focus has always been on creating a safe psychological space where people are not afraid to speak their hearts out. I came across stories of my colleagues where someone is going through a divorce, someone missed the doctor appointment of his pregnant wife as he was too passionate in solving some of the work related problems and one of the colleagues just discovered his wife and mom were diagnosed with kidney stones. I could not have known about these issues because people usually don’t share such information with everyone and this is something which I want to change about our organisation. I am thankful to my colleagues that they trusted me with sharing their vulnerabilities. I believe we are in the right direction to create safe psychological space for our colleagues. For this reason, #EMPATHY is one of the most important pillars at EasyEat as it impacts both the personal and professional side of things. You can solve the problems of only those people with whom you empathise, be it customers or your employees and that makes it one of the most potent forces to build your organisation around. #India #Malaysia #Indonesia
