October 2: Madison’s Passenger Rail Station Identification Study --submitted by Ellsworth Brown Liz Callin, City of Madison senior transportation planner and specialist in transit, passenger rail, public engagement and policy work, spoke about Madison's Passenger Rail Station Identification Study that is fitting and necessary for the state Capital, the University and associated research, tourism, Madison’s new transit system, and linkage to the city’s biotech hub. The goal is to provide two round trips per day between Milwaukee and Minneapolis-St. Paul while linking several Wisconsin cities associated with the new Borealis line, as well as the Hiawatha line. Possible Madison station sites being studied: somewhere downtown (probably preferred), First Street corridor and the Oscar Mayer corridor. The best would contain associated space for development of lodging, businesses, and public functions. A site could be identified in 2025-2026. Completion of planning, design, and construction could occur by 2031. The benefits would include accommodation of 300,000 new Madison-Dane County residents by 2050; and more efficient, safer, cleaner and environmentally friendly city linkages. Now the project needs federal leadership and a supporting coalition of potential benefactors in Madison and along related rail routes. Protect Tollerton Airfield – A Vital Asset for STEM and Aviation Innovation, Tollerton Airfield (EGBN), located near Nottingham, is under threat of redevelopment into housing as part of Policy 31 in the Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan. This proposal risks irreversible loss of critical infrastructure that supports STEM education, economic development, and the future of aviation technologies like #AdvancedAirMobility (AAM). Please can members of the Royal Aeronautical Society and the global aviation community, come together and use our collective voice. Your input can directly influence this decision and help protect one of the UK's most strategically valuable General Aviation airfields. Why Tollerton Matters STEM Hub Proximity to the University of Nottingham fosters collaboration, offering hands-on experience for students and enabling cutting-edge aerospace research. Economic Engine A national study values Tollerton's potential economic contribution at £17.3M annually. Future-Ready Infrastructure Positioned to lead in the emerging AAM revolution, including eVTOL technologies. Irreplaceable Aviation Network Essential for pilot training, general aviation, and maintaining the UK’s airfield network as mandated by the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). The Risk Housing can be built on alternative sites, but airfields cannot be replaced once lost. The short-term benefits of redevelopment pale in comparison to the long-term economic and strategic losses this proposal would generate. How You Can Help Submit Your Comments The Greater Nottingham Planning Partnership is inviting public input. Anyone can comment – from anywhere in the UK or worldwide – and all relevant points will be considered. (see more in the comments) Visit: https://lnkd.in/esWTYtX2 Raise Awareness Share this post with your network. Encourage aviation professionals, STEM advocates, and community stakeholders to act. Together, We Can Make a Difference “Homes can be built in many places, but airfields cannot.” Let's ensure the voices of the aviation community are heard loud and clear. Thanks to Sarah Deacon for her leadership in addressing this challenge. #TollertonAirfield #SaveOurAirfields #STEM #AviationFuture #RoyalAeronauticalSociety #AdvancedAirMobility

✨ #SpringIntoAction #JustStreets Developed by DSDHA for Cross River Partnership in 2021, the Highways and Footways Accessibility Guidelines report identifies accessibility challenges and provides guidance to make positive change against these. 👣 Read the full report ➡️ https://ow.ly/ASME50RuVje To support street space understanding, the report highlights the Place-Pace Tool, which can be used to appraise existing conditions, plan new schemes and also, assess them after implementation. The Place-Pace Analysis tool interrogates three themes (read clockwise from 12 o'clock mark): 1. City Network Theme - seeks to spatially map the context area of study 📍 2. Activity Theme – seeks to document the temporal qualities of the space in terms of how the activity changes over the course of a day, week or year. 📅 3. Behaviour Theme - seeks to document how different users experience the public realm. 🚶🚴 CRP is a proud partner of the #JustStreets project! The City of Cleveland has released two key studies on the future of Burke Lakefront Airport! One study reviews the legal, operational, and financial implications of potentially closing the airport, while the other examines the economic impact of redeveloping the 245-acre site. A major takeaway is that Burke’s current economic impact is relatively small ($76.6M annually), and redevelopment could increase that to $92M, with plans to preserve 200 acres for parks and greenspace. Mayor Bibb emphasizes that no decision has been made, and stakeholder engagement will continue. Thursday Oct 24th, online/in person (Leith), 2 hour session for insights into what enables and what holds back the decarbonisation of non-domestic buildings and local authority estates. Please also pass on to any #Scottish #politicians in your circle: this combined event by Architype and mwclubb | Architectural Design, both extremely knowledgeable in the overall building decarbonisation space will in particular, describe which big (inadvertent) blockers exist in the policy structure that are so effective in keeping fuel poverty, building-related ill-health and and overall wellbeing-deficit so firmly and negatively in the news. In addition to the unnecessarily high emission from the domestic and buildings sectors. https://lnkd.in/eDeknqSs

Public consultation shows strong local support to extend DLR in East London. Transport for London's (TfL) public consultation on plans to extend the DLR to Beckton Riverside and Thamesmead show the majority of respondents are supportive. Work will now progress on developing the business case. Extending the DLR, says TfL, would support low-carbon developments in Thamesmead and Beckton Riverside, unlocking the delivery of up to 30,000 new homes along the extended route Investment in this scheme would also support a UK-wide supply chain, supporting growth and job creation across the country. According to the newly published consultation report on a cross-river extension of the DLR from Gallions Reach to Thamesmead, via Beckton Riverside, 58% of respondents said the extension would make their journeys quicker around their local area and 75% said it would make journeys into wider east and southeast London easier. The consultation, launched earlier this year, received 1,254 responses from members of the public and 29 from a range of stakeholders including pan-London transport user groups, local businesses, environmental groups, politicians and adjacent boroughs. In addition to the consultation, TfL ran sample polling in locations in Beckton, Gallions Reach, Thamesmead and Abbey Wood where 85% supported or strongly supported the proposals. A new DLR station would be built at Beckton Riverside, with a tunnel built under the River Thames linked to another new DLR station at Thamesmead. It would build on experience from 2009 when the DLR was extended to Woolwich Arsenal, tunnelling beneath the River Thames, with housing growth following in areas including Woolwich, Canning Town, and the Royal Docks... Had a few messages in response to my recent video clip where I showcased the new and improved advanced market analytics on EG #Radius so thought I would keep the momentum going and share another one. In my latest video, I reveal how #realestate professionals can harness the full potential of EG #Radius to identify and track #permitteddevelopment schemes across any use-type. EG track applications across all planning authorities across the UK and in this example I show how powerful it can also be for the #residential markets, as well. Watch as I demonstrate filtering from UK-wide #planningschemes to pinpointing #newbuild or #changeofuse projects in #Berkshire. Interessant - es sind die Kosten; und „the Economy, stupid!“ „A car-lite city, enabled by robust public transit and a thriving micromobility sector—is not some utopian fantasy; it’s an economic imperative, as proven by cities like London, Singapore, and Stockholm. These cities stand as testaments to the transformative power of congestion pricing; by making investments to modernize their transit systems and support non-car travel, they experienced a boom in economic activity. Further, Stockholm’s traffic reductions save the city the equivalent of $80 million per day through reductions in travel time, proving that a commitment to sustainable urban planning is a commitment to economic growth.“
Great article by Joseph Cohen and Eddie Cohen in citylimits. After a weekend in Paris, the benefits of redestributing urban space have yet again become very clear to me. Thanks to Reilly Brennan for sharing it in his latest newsletter. https://lnkd.in/erEbiuSR
