Lately, I have been exploring VR as a tool for animation. Using VR with the animation software Quill can be very exciting and so cool -that's only if you get through the learning curve to really get to know how to use it 😄. So far, Quill is arguable the only software capable of making a complete traditional animation in this technology. A couple of weeks ago, was in a meeting with a few others from different parts of the world as Negar Motevali -director of Less than 5 gr of Saffron, walked us through her animated virtual reality (VR) project. I watched Negar's film, both the rendered video version on screen and also the VR version a couple of times. Given the fact that it was a strong piece of animation put up by Negar, it worked in both versions -video and VR. But the VR version is just so -OMG! Sitting through the experience of the short film in VR and also getting to have Negar walk us through the entire process of the creation of her film highlighted to me one cardinal thing to appreciate about VR. And it's obviously the Immersive Experience dimension it brings to a narrative. It immerses its audience into the ongoing narrative adding that level of depth to an animation. VR really allows animators to immerse themselves in a virtual environment, affording them with more intuitive and immersive ways of creating animations. In my opinion it is one of the easiest ways for 2D Animators to get into 3D / interact with 3D spaces while still being able to animate in "2D." #VRanimation #QuillVR #VirtualReality #AnimationTech #ImmersiveExperience #AnimationInVR #3DAnimation #TraditionalAnimation #LearningCurve #NegarMotevali #LessThan5grOfSaffron #VRFilm #AnimationProcess #InteractiveAnimation #2Din3D
