🚀 A month ago, we gathered in Lisbon for the Youth Experts Group meeting, where public service media leaders came together to tackle one of our biggest challenges: 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬. 👶🧒👧👦 🌟 The discussions spanned topics like talent development, the rise of gaming as a content frontier & the power of influencers to drive impactful storytelling. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭: 🎮 RTP Arena is leading the way in esports, transforming media engagement by hosting world-class events like BLAST Lisbon & IEM - putting public service media at the heart of the gaming conversation. 📱 S4C’s Hansh is a masterclass in connecting with youth. Embracing an influencer-first strategy really has to be part of the sports industry’s armory to combat declining linear viewership. The views persuasively argued here chimes with a recent report by IMG which crowned YouTube as the priority platform for sports due to its ability to reach, engage and monetise audiences. Insta, TikTok and Facebook followed close behind. We’ve seen a clear advancement in direct-to-consumer strategy by sports and a widespread shift towards community-focused platforms. They are showing traction in acquiring new audiences and capturing the attention of a younger generation. 💡“We’re all living the Olympics through TikTok now 👉 In NBC's quest to provide wall-to-wall coverage of the Paris Games, the TV network has aimed to dominate a different device: your phone.” 💡99% of my #Olympic content has been through #TikTok - keep in mind content I actually like. The blend of different viewpoints, ranging from the athletes themselves to the spectators and the hosts, made it fun. Because of the way different content was presented (actually interesting), I got introduced to sports and athletes I didn’t even know about - yup, the pommel horse. Media consumption is changing at a rapid pace, but this Olympics has been a case study on how social platforms like TikTok are where most people are consuming content. On that note, media brands need to focus on creating social-friendly content first. #Media
