Speech pathology is for everyone! Children who speak multiple languages are often under or over diagnosed with a developmental language disorder, as it can be difficult to find the line between a transfer effect of one language to another and what is a language disorder. Therefore looking at grammar can be a great indicator of language disorders for multilingual population. It is important to note that holistic assessment is crucial to determine if someone has a language disorder, but looking at grammar can help! #slp2be #slplife #speechpathology #wespeechies #multilingual #languagedisorder Reference: Garraffa, M., Vender, A., Sorace, A. & Guasti, T. Children's language disorders encompass a range of difficulties that affect a child's ability to understand and/or produce spoken language. These disorders can include difficulties with articulation, phonology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. They can manifest as speech sound disorders, language disorders, or a combination of both. Causes can vary, including neurological, genetic, or environmental factors. Early identification and intervention are crucial for addressing these challenges and supporting a child's language development. #RaiseAgainstAutism #PinnacleSaysItAll #PinnacleBloomsNetwork #1AutismTherapyCentresNetwork

💡 If you have a child who is not speaking much or not at all, you might wonder what you can say when choosing gestalts to model! The first thing to do is to observe and listen! We want to figure out what they are interested in and what they want to communicate about. Just because a child isn't using spoken language, it doesn't mean they don't have the language or the gestalts. The process of language starts in our minds before we move our bodies (e.g. for gestures) and our mouths (for speech sounds). When we model language, we want to keep our tone exciting, fun and natural! We have 'pinned' some tips and examples above! ☝️😊 It might also be worth considering using alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) to support your child's language. AAC won't replace language but support its development. If you have any questions about how to support your child's gestalt language development, please get in touch with a Speech Pathologist! 💚 The information in the above infographic and caption is adapted from Meaningful Speech. #gestalts #scripts #gestaltlanguagedevelopment #gestaltlanguageprocessing #gestaltlanguageprocessor #languagedevelopment #neurodiversity #neurodivergence #neurodiversityaffirmingpractice #neuroaffirmingpractice #leapfrogtherapy #leapfrogspot #occupationaltherapy #ot #speechpathology #speechlanguagepathology #speechtherapy #speechlanguagetherapy #slp #earlyintervention #earlydevelopment #clinic #sydneyclinic #melbourneclinic #strategies #tips

Our speech-language pathologists at Square Peg evaluate and treat infants, children and adolescents with a variety of speech, language and swallowing problems. Our speech language pathologists(SLP), are focused on helping children unlock their full potential. We help improve issues with articulation, voice, fluency & language with your child. Our overall focus is to prevent, evaluate, identify, and treat any speech, communication, language, and/or swallowing disorders a child may possess. Disorders such as apraxia of speech, stuttering, articulation challenges, or phonological discrepancies can hinder clear communication and expression, impacting their day-to-day conversations. This in turn affects their self-esteem, schoolwork, and social activities. Our SLP’s will dig deep into these disorders, offering speech progression techniques and activities. We strive to ensure results by equipping every kiddo with needed communication essentials by pinpointing and addressing their core challenges, while using proven techniques and strategies. If you notice signs of these challenges or similar ones in your child and wonder about the potential benefits of speech therapy, know that you have support and can get the answers you want!
