Key takeaways from this year‘s Consulting Career Fair 🎓 Today I joined the Consulting Career Fair with Oliver Wyman at University of St. Gallen - HSG. It was great to be back after so many years with vivid memories coming up from my studies there. Now standing on the other side of the table as part of the Oliver Wyman team and remembering how I used to be in the shoes of these young professionals. What I wished to know when interacting with companies at that time: >Be specific in your questions: what do you really want to know about a company or from the person working there? >Exchange on topics you can‘t find online: having people there actually working at the company gives you the opportunity to get first-hand insights & experiences rather common company information >Try to engage in a conversation: at the end, it‘s always nice to have a two-way conversation rather than going through a list of questions & answers It was great to be back and already looking forward to next year!

One example of how we are investing in the future is by encouraging students to consider careers in manufacturing! Our plant leaders regularly attend career fairs to share information about the types of jobs we have available and how we're making an impact on the world around us. What advice would you give to a student who is thinking about a career in manufacturing? #ManufacturingJobs #ManufacturingCareers #CareerAdvice

Today when I first came across this I was a little disappointed in the timing. It’s on a Wednesday in the middle of the day. This eliminates so many from being able to attend. Then I started to wonder… we have so many young adults graduating in less than 60 days. How wonderful would it be if we could allow them to attend these job fairs. So I was thinking about how high schools offer “Comp Days” for Juniors and Seniors to go tour potential colleges. The schools fully support these days. So why can’t we use these “Comp Days” for other students to attend job fairs. Give these students that have no intentions of going to college the opportunity to explore and network other career opportunities. Some schools do bring a few select students to job fairs, but these are typically your high achieving students that are already planning to attend college. Those students are good, they have a plan. My heart is always with the students that are lost, the ones that have no direction. That’s the student that needs guidance. Those are the students that need to hear the success stories. When I post and say, share your story because you never know who you might be inspiring, this is what I’m talking about. Let’s make career fair/ job interview “Comp Days” a new normal.

🤖 🧪 Proud to support opportunities for young people to engage with STEM activity 🧪 🤖 Using our Soldamatic - Official augmented reality welding kit all age groups can get an appreciation for the skills required to weld. Many children come to the station not knowing what welding is and within 10mins they not only talk about what welding is used for and share ideas about where in their lives they see or use products with welded elements but get to try it in a safe environment. A great initiative from Jennifer Hunter (Sanderson), Annemarie Smith Angus Council to inspire the next generation of engineers.
Delighted to be at Whitehills PS today running their STEM Career Fair. The staff kindly shared this montage with us and I think it sums up the day quite nicely! Annemarie Smith Helen Ritchie
