𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐰𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐫’𝐬 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞 Gwadar’s energy challenges are finding a sustainable solution as the adoption of solar systems gains momentum across the region. “Throughout 2024, sales of solar systems in my store have increased by about 60 percent,” shared Muhammad Baloch, a trader in Dashti Market, Gwadar’s primary hub for electronics and solar systems. “Chinese brands are particularly popular here due to their value for money.” This trend didn’t appear overnight. Gwadar has long struggled with energy shortages, but the availability of high-quality solar panels, batteries, and kits in local markets has fueled this growth. The turning point came in 2021 when the Chinese government donated solar systems to the region, sparking public interest and trust in solar energy. For many residents, like Abdul Rasheed, a fisherman from the old city of Gwadar, solar systems have been life-changing. “Power outages are no longer a problem,” he said. “The Chinese solar system has brought stability to our lives.” The impact of solar energy isn’t limited to residential areas. Commercial buildings in Gwadar are increasingly adopting solar solutions to cut costs and improve energy reliability. According to the Gwadar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the business of selling solar panels and systems is thriving, with demand surging across the region. Nationwide, Pakistan’s solar market is experiencing unprecedented growth. By mid-2024, the country became the third-largest buyer of Chinese solar panels, with imports reaching 13 gigawatts (GW). With electricity prices rising, industries, businesses, and households are turning to solar power as a reliable and affordable alternative. Looking ahead, Pakistan’s government has ambitious plans to partner with Chinese companies to produce solar panels domestically. This initiative will not only reduce import costs but also support the installation of 9.7 GW of renewable energy systems by 2030, driving the nation closer to a greener, self-reliant energy future. #ecocartenergy #gawadar #solarenergy #solarpower #greenenergy

The #Sindh government, in collaboration with the The World Bank, has announced an initiative to provide complete #solar systems to 200,000 households at an affordable price of just Rs7,000 each. This program aims to tackle energy challenges and promote #sustainable electricity solutions across the province. The solar systems will be available to households throughout Sindh, including 50,000 in #Karachi. Each system, priced at Rs7,000, will include a fan and three LED bulbs, ensuring basic lighting and ventilation. Sindh's director of alternative energy disclosed that 6,656 solar systems will be distributed in each district. The project is set to begin in October, following the procurement of solar panels, charge controllers, and batteries. Funded by the World Bank, which has allocated $32 million for this initiative, the project may see further expansion in the future. Sindh already generates 400MW of electricity from solar energy, demonstrating its commitment to renewable energy sources. In a similar effort, the #Punjab government plans to provide free solar systems to 50,000 households, targeting those consuming up to 100 units of electricity per month. This scheme, fully funded by the provincial government at a cost of Rs10 billion, aims to alleviate electricity costs for low-consumption households by covering all expenses, including installation. #DigitalPakistan #TechUpdate

Government of India issues Operational Guidelines for Implementation of 'Model Solar Village’ under PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana Under the scheme component 'Model Solar Village', emphasis has been made on creating one Model Solar Village per district across India, with the goal of promoting solar energy adoption and enabling village communities to become self-reliant in meeting their energy needs. A total financial outlay of ₹800 crore has been allocated for this component, providing ₹1 crore per selected Model Solar Village. In order to be considered a village under the competition mode, a village must be a revenue village with a population size above 5,000 (or 2,000 for special category states). The selection process involves a competitive mode where villages are assessed on their overall distributed renewable energy (RE) capacity installed on 6 months after the declaration of the potential candidate by District Level Committee (DLC). The winning village in each district, with the highest RE capacity, will receive a central financial assistance grant of ₹1 crore. The implementation of this scheme will be done by State/UT Renewable Energy Development Agency under the supervision of District Level Committee (DLC), ensuring that selected villages transition effectively to solar-powered communities, serving as models for other villages across the country. The Government of India approved the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana on 29th February 2024, with the aim to increase the share of solar rooftop capacity and empower residential households to generate their own electricity. The scheme has an outlay of Rs 75,021 crore and is to be implemented till FY 2026-27.
