"The culmination of a dream of 5 years and almost 2 years of work. The first powered trials of our 18-passenger 8.5m capsize-proof and unsinkable POC Bamboo Composite Timaran. It was conceived and built as a sustainable, safe, tough, affordable and efficient replacement for leaky Country Boat Ferries, fast River Shuttles and Tourism. If it looks somewhat rough around the edges, it's because it is still a work in progress. If the front looks a wee bit raised, it's due to the vessel's extremely light weight of about 800 Kg and lack of passenger weight. Building this boat for me personally was an exercise of humility and an endurance test for tenacity and determination. From my absolute lack of funds, which had me going around with a begging bowl, to getting commitments that were never fulfilled, to the snail-speed government processes. It is based on a modified FAO fishing boat design but converted into a multihull with self-balancing outriggers, built from a Bamboo Composite sandwich of our own making, with a process that we also developed from scratch, in-house. As for the driving/sailing experience? Butter smooth, she glides through the water, has zero wave slap, creates almost no wake and can take turns at insane angles.
