📢 African Bamboo's carbon agroforestry project listed on Verra! We're thrilled to announce that our pioneering tropical bamboo agroforestry project in Ethiopia has been listed on Verra, a leading carbon credit registry recognized internationally. This milestone marks a significant first step in our mission to combat climate change, promote sustainable land use, and empower local communities in Ethiopia. "The listing on Verra is the culmination of more than a year of collaborative work spanning four continents, and we are grateful for the team who made it possible. Yet, this is only the beginning of a transformative journey for Ethiopia and the continent at large. It is the first step towards unlocking the vast potential of the carbon market for the private sector and global investors. It opens new opportunities to invest in a sustainable bamboo agroforestry project that brings tangible benefits to farmers, women, and youth beyond carbon sequestration." Khalid Duri- Founder of African Bamboo Our project focuses on planting Yushania alpina -highland bamboo-along with native indigenous species to create dynamic community-led agroforestry across the tropical Afromontane highland ecosystems. By implementing afforestation activities over an initial 20 ha, the project will expand across 12,120 ha to restore degraded and deforested land in Ethiopia while providing essential ecosystem services such as increased climate resilience, soil stability, and water flow regulation. 🌿 Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 🌿 Today, I had the profound honor of planting a tree in memory of my beloved mother, as part of the Government of India's #EkPedMaaKeNaam initiative. Inspired by our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call in the #MannKiBaat program, this initiative aims to not only honor our mothers but also contribute to a greener, healthier environment for future generations. The experience was deeply emotional for me, knowing that my mother is watching from above, proud of this tribute. This initiative resonates with so many of us who wish to give back to nature and create a lasting legacy of love and care. #EkPedMaaKeNaam is a holistic program that addresses the urgent need for urban and rural forest cover restoration. With urbanization and development taking a toll on our green spaces, the need for urban forestry is critical. The latest data reveals that India’s forest cover stands at 21.71% of our geographical area, but the contrast between urban and rural forest cover is alarming. Urban areas are rapidly losing greenery, while rural forests face threats from deforestation and climate change. This initiative not only restores green environments but also symbolizes the nurturing spirit of our mothers. It fosters community participation and collective responsibility towards our planet. Public participation has been phenomenal, with support from all walks of life, making this program a grand success. I encourage everyone to join this noble cause, plant a tree, and nurture it. Let’s create a legacy that will endure for generations. This is our chance to give back to nature and ensure a healthier future for our children. Together, we can make a difference. 🌱 #Environment #Sustainability #GreenIndia #TreePlantation #UrbanForestry #RuralForestry #CommunityEngagement #ClimateAction #NatureConservation #PMO #MinistryOfEnvironment #PublicParticipation #INCL #IndiaNewsCommunications #PrashantKumar

Seeking Expertise: Developing Carbon Methodologies for Agroforestry in Nepal's Mountain Communities Nepal’s mountain communities face a dual crisis: climate change threatens traditional subsistence farming, and youth migration leaves villages depopulated. Abandoned farmlands, overrun by aggressive local tree species (Chilaune: Schima wallichii, Utis: Alnus nepalensis), exacerbate the problem, leading to degraded land and lost traditional knowledge. Sustainable cash crop-based agroforestry systems (AFS) offer hope, but implementing these requires innovative carbon sequestration methodologies tailored to Nepal's unique context. We seek insights from international experts to address the following: 1. How can existing methodologies adapt to account for invasive species removal before AFS establishment? 2. What protocols can quantify carbon stock changes from this process? 3. How can additionality and baseline determination be managed in this scenario? 4. What approaches ensure permanence of carbon stocks and minimize leakage? 5. Are there successful case studies from similar regions? 6. How can MRV protocols effectively capture diverse AFS benefits? 7. How can we ensure active participation of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IP & LCs)? 8. What financing mechanisms support initial costs beyond traditional carbon finance? 9. How can agroforestry address broader issues like rural depopulation and youth employment? 10. What interdisciplinary partnerships are necessary for robust methodology development? Your expertise will help us develop sustainable solutions for Nepal's mountain communities, balancing environmental and socio-economic needs. #CarbonSequestration #Agroforestry #ClimateChange #Nepal #Sustainability #YouthEmployment #TraditionalKnowledge #CarbonFinance

🌳 At the end of 2021, the Reforest'Action funded project in Taza began, bringing significant benefits to the region. Northern Morocco is highly vulnerable to #climate change, resulting in more frequent and prolonged droughts, which weaken water resources and natural #ecosystems. The region's degraded soils are also more prone to erosion during heavy rains, leading to repeated flooding. 👀 Cereal farming is crucial to Morocco's economy and society, occupying 60% of the country's agricultural land. However, it has been severely affected by declining rainfall in recent years. In contrast, arboriculture is less vulnerable to weather changes and is the second most important agricultural sector, covering 16% of cultivated land. Although there are many orchards around Taza, they are quite old and their production has decreased. 🤝🏻 Reforest'Action's project aims to produce nursery stock and distribute 300,000 fruit trees to several hundred farmers across five regions (13 provinces) in northeastern Morocco. These trees aim to create diversified orchards on land degraded by the monoculture of barley and corn, to regenerate agricultural ecosystems and revive sustainable arboriculture. In an arid environment, transitioning from monoculture annual crops to diverse arboriculture will help reduce soil erosion, improve soil structure, and boost biodiversity. 📈 In the first year, over 187,000 trees of eight different species were distributed to 616 farmers, who were involved from the project's design phase and helped choose the species best suited to their needs. There is high demand for these trees, which offer an attractive economic opportunity for farmers and their families Additionally, 60 seasonal workers have been hired to operate the large Bouhlou nursery, created specifically for this project. An audit conducted in April 2024 estimated the survival rate of the planted fruit trees at 80.3%. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀? The Arabari Experiment: A Pioneer in Community-Driven Conservation 🌱🌳 In the 1970s, the Arabari Forest in West Bengal, India, faced widespread deforestation and resource degradation. However, a groundbreaking initiative led by forest officer Ajit Kumar Banerjee turned this tide by embracing a community-centric approach. Instead of imposing top-down rules, Banerjee partnered with local villagers, offering them a stake in forest management and its benefits. Villagers received employment, access to forest products, and a share of timber revenues. In return, they actively protected and regenerated the forest. This experiment not only restored biodiversity but also showcased the power of joint forest management (JFM). Arabari's success became a model for sustainable forest conservation across India and beyond. The Arabari story reminds us that empowering communities isn't just ethical it’s essential for environmental resilience. 🌍💡 #Sustainability #Conservation #CommunityEmpowerment #ArabariExperiment #Forests
