The news about the UK’s leading supermarkets transitioning to card-only payments this year isn’t going away! According to a recent Time Out Group plc article, supermarkets like Tesco, Asda, and Waitrose are transitioning to card-only payments, impacting cafes and petrol stations. The fundamental changes include: ▪ Tesco: 40 cafes going cash-free. ▪ Asda: 68 more petrol stations going card-only. ▪ Waitrose: All self-service tills now card-only. While digital payments offer convenience and faster service, maintaining both cash and card options is essential for inclusivity. Cash remains vital for those who prefer it, such as the elderly or children without bank accounts. Balancing both methods ensures everyone has access while embracing innovation. The Grocery Commissioner's supermarket report out today is a scathing review of an industry that continues to treat consumers and suppliers badly. The Grocery Action Group applauds the Commissioner's report and agrees much more needs to be done. The report finds: the wholesale market doesn't work; suppliers are still being bullied; land banking needs to be stopped; the regulator needs more tools to force structural change like forced divestment. And of most importance Kiwi consumers need a fairer deal at the checkout. The Grocery Action Group continues to fight for these changes. https://lnkd.in/gaHFNR7W

✋Hands up if you remember the days when you had to pop into the shop to pay for your petrol. Yes, Gen Z, that was a real thing. ⛽You’d fill up your tank, head inside, grab a Lucozade and a Mars Bar, and maybe dream about hitting the jackpot on the National Lottery while you queued up to pay for 'Pump #3'. Times have moved on. Convenience stores now have to go the extra mile to entice people in with loyalty schemes, special offers, and made-to-order food and drinks. PLUS, in the age of rapid delivery, there’s even more pressure to offer a smooth, quick service that gets customers back on the road in no time. Just like 'Pay at the Pump' transformed fuelling, retail technology is shaping the future of convenience stores. 🔗 Look at our ‘Future of Convenience Stores’ report in partnership with Incisiv for insights from key players in this sector: https://bit.ly/3NdA81K

☕💳 Gloria Jean’s Coffees is joining the cashless movement at its company-owned stores starting September 11, reflecting Australia’s broader shift towards digital payments. While this aligns with consumer preferences for speed and convenience, it also raises important questions about inclusivity and access. From a merchant’s perspective, going cashless can streamline operations, reduce cash handling costs, and enhance security for staff. However, it also presents challenges, such as the need for robust digital infrastructure and the potential loss of customers who prefer cash transactions. As more businesses follow suit, striking a balance between innovation and inclusivity will be key to ensuring no one is left behind. 🛒 What's Your Thoughts? 🤔 It's encouraging to hear about the price drop on 4,000 products, but what exactly is included in this reduction? 📉 Tesco's commitment to affordability, through 'Aldi Price Match' and 'Clubcard promotions,' aims to ease financial burdens. However, I do find it frustrating to see prices rise so much that the 'Clubcard price' matches my previous shop's original price or when promotions focus on less desirable items. Personally, I alternate between Aldi and Tesco. While Aldi offers competitive prices, I often find myself returning to Tesco as I struggle to find all the items I need. 🛍 Who's your go-to supermarket? #Tesco #Aldi #Affordability #Costofliving #Clubcard #BBC
