In Indonesia rainforests and coral reefs are being destroyed, in Congo, child and slave labour is being used to mine lithium. All so that the rich west can convince itself that they are virtuous citizens saving the world. Surely there is a better way

New analysis: business interests and fossil fuels dominated Malaysia's party overflow badges to COP! In particular, fossil fuel lobbyists from Malaysia outnumbered Singapore's official party delegation to COP. Meanwhile, CSOs made up the smallest group under Malaysia's delegation, with no representatives of Indigenous-led or Sabah and Sarawak-focused CSOs attending under overflow badges.
Today, RimbaWatch published an analysis which finds that, in Malaysia's delegation to COP: 1. Representatives of business interests outnumbered the official delegation 2. Fossil fuel lobbyists were the largest corporate group 3. Civil society organisations were the smallest group 4. No delegates representing Indigenous or Sabah and Sarawak organisations were provided with badges by the Malaysian government. Read more at https://lnkd.in/eC4YcZUz

🌊💧 Happy World Water Day! 💧🌊 As we commemorate #WorldWaterDay, I am reminded of the critical importance of water resources management, not only globally but also within the context of #Azerbaijan. Water is an invaluable asset for #Azerbaijan, a country blessed with water resources from the #CaspianSea, rivers like the #Kura and #Aras, and abundant groundwater reservoirs. These resources support various sectors crucial to Azerbaijan's economy, including #agriculture, #energy, and #industry. However, despite this abundance, challenges persist. Climate change impacts, inefficient water usage, and pollution threaten the sustainability of Azerbaijan's water resources. Addressing these challenges requires collaborative efforts from government, industry, academia, and civil society. On this World Water Day, let's renew our commitment to sustainable water management practices in Azerbaijan. Let's harness innovation, promote water conservation, and implement policies that ensure equitable access to clean water for all Azerbaijani citizens. Together, we can safeguard Azerbaijan's water resources, ensuring they remain a source of prosperity and resilience for generations to come. Happy World Water Day! 💙 #WaterIsLife #SustainableDevelopment #Azerbaijan #WaterConservation #ClimateAction #SDG6

Ahead of COP29, the International Community Must Advocate for the Respect of Human Rights During the UN’s annual convention on climate change in Baku next month, democracy’s defenders have an opportunity to hold the Azerbaijani regime accountable for its human rights violations—and to push for change. COP 29, The world’s most prestigious climate conference organized by the UN is being hosted in Azerbaijan. A country known for its brutal human rights abuses and environmental destruction. A country run by a brutal Petro-dictatorship that has committed ethnic cleansing and genocide only a year ago. A country that continues to destroy ancient christian monuments that has it has forcefully taken over. This cannot be the face of global climate leadership. There cannot be climate justice without human justice and respect for human rights. We demand that the world renounce this futile attempt to allow Azerbaijan to greenwash the crimes it has committed on the Armenians of Artsakh. And we demand that Azerbaijan free the Armenian hostages who have been kept in the prisons of Baku. Please share using these hashtags in your posts: #StopGreenwashGenocide #FreeArmenianHostages #FreePoliticalPrisoners #BoycottCop29 #COPout29 Say NO to Azerbaijan’s genocidal policies and NO to greenwashing at #COP29.

A major deal! Veolia just signed with the Kingdom of Morocco 🇲🇦 government to build Africa's largest seawater desalination plant near Rabat. This is going to be the second biggest desalination facility in the world! It's a big 35-year partnership between Veolia and Morocco, with a goal to make the plant an efficient, innovative and environmentally-friendly facility. This project fits perfectly into Morocco's national strategy to boost water security as climate change makes the drought situation worse. Desalination is becoming a crucial solution for the water-stressed Mediterranean region. Veolia's expertise combined with Morocco's vision will ensure this plant sets new standards for sustainable desalination technology benefiting the nation. As a Moroccan, I couldn't be more excited to see my country and Veolia collaborate on this game-changing project that will bring clean water access to so many through sustainable desalination. #Waterresilience #Watersecurity #Watertreatment #Veolia #Desalination
Veolia has signed an exclusive agreement with Morocco to develop Africa's largest seawater desalination project, which will also be the world’s second-largest. Announced during French President Emmanuel Macron's state visit, the agreement positions Veolia as a strategic partner to design, finance, and operate the plant over a 35-year period near Rabat on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. The plant, with a capacity of 822,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day, will meet the urgent water needs of Morocco’s drought-affected Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Fès-Meknès regions, serving around 9.3 million people. "We are fully aware of the urgency of the situation and proud to contribute to this major project, which will strengthen the country's water resilience," said Estelle Brachlianoff, CEO of Veolia.
