As highlighted in the recent Women in Action article, my journey and dedication to a united, progressive, and inclusive Europe are at the heart of my running for the EP representing Volt Slovakia. Recent events in Slovakia have highlighted the need for stability and balance in our society and politics. Promoting policies that enhance safety and peace, both nationally and across Europe are at our hearts and we are ready to advocate for evidence-based policies that drive lasting change. We are dedicated to listening to and acting on the concerns of Slovak citizens and all Europeans. Your voices and ideas are central to our work. Being the catalyst for adjustments and balance in both national and European movements toward a better, stronger, and safer Europe. Together, we can build a future where integrity, safety, and the best interests of the people guide our policies.

As an Spaniard living in Portugal for 18 years, I have learnt to look at countries through different glasses, that I probably would have otherwise: ECONOMY: History vs. Geopolitics The economy of a country depends on so many factors, being History and its geopolitical position two of the most important. The intrinsic value of its people is by not means at stake. DEMOCRACY: Rights vs. Passivity Rights are not a given, they are fought for and conquered. Everyday single day. ACTIVISM: Civic Engagement vs. Consumerism Average people, all around the globe, aren't active in civic movements creating a better world or fighting for rights, they are passive consumers of what the minority created. EFFICIENCY: Proactivity vs. Passiveness Passiveness creates inefficiencies, from tiny little things to systemic national challenges. LONG TERM: Creation vs. Destruction Sadly, Destruction is much more powerful than Creation. As an example: it takes 9 months to for a human being to be brought to life, one drop of poison and we die withing seconds. A concrete example that breaks my heart: a country such as Portugal that dismantles its railway network with Europe will take years or decades to rebuild it - provided there's will to do so. PEOPLE'S CHARACTER: Empathy vs. Apathy Portuguese are, to the day, the most welcoming spirits, open-minded and empathic people I've ever met. I celebrate today this country, that is already mine too. I'm proud of what this resilient people accomplish, despite so many hurdles. 🌹 COUNT ME IN TO KEEP FIGHTING FOR #portugal #democracia #direitos #democracy #welfare #rights #25abril #carnationrevolution

Important point to end the week: I didn’t make it to Budapest for the Hungarian Presidency conferences this week (we had our #CCIAeurope anniversary) but I’ve seen pictures of #Manels (panel with only men). Many manels. Large manels. Multiple manels. An eight man manel… does that sound a bit dirty? So this is just a call to remember to not do that. For organisers and for speakers. I know sometimes it’s tricky if all the experts you invite are specific people on post, and either say yes or send only men. We’ve been there as organisers and I’ve been there as a speaker. But we can do better and I am 100% certain there were brilliant women in those audiences this week who could have been up there on stage too. So this is a call to my fellow men and manellists to ask #organisers to do better and to occasionally step back or ask a colleague to take your place. Image obviously generated to make a point. But we do all wear those blue and grey suits… #personalreflection #publicspeaking #representation #equality #allyship #fairness

I am so proud to be Czech and I am proud to sing the Czech anthem and hold the Czech flag during the ceremony at the 71st World Congress of FCEM in Sydney. Today we celebrate Czech National Day. 🇨🇿 The Czech Republic was founded in 1918 as Czechoslovakia after World War I. Women were among the first in Europe to have the right to vote in 1920. And who was the first? 1906 - Finland, 1907 - Norway, 1915 - Denmark and Iceland. 🤔 Do women have the same opportunities as men? Do we have the same access to boards, jobs, politics, is it easy to get funding and so on? I think we have the same opportunities in business, although sometimes women don't dream as big as they could. But having small and medium-sized businesses could be even more sustainable in today's world. 🤔 What are your experiences? Please share, it could be inspiring. #FCEM #ČMAPM #inspiration #businesseslife

Over the last number of years, in my capacity as member of the Expert group for ECoC’s, I’ve come to learn a lot about the cultural policies in other countries across Europe at both national and local level. Today, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission presented her team for the next five years. Glenn Micallef from Malta, has been assigned the EU Culture portfolio. Culture is now linked with 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡, and 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 within the same Commission portfolio. Micallef belongs to the labour party in Malta, who are delivering on an interesting Cultural Policy. Malta's Cultural Policy, stands out as one of the few national cultural agendas in the EU that sets an ambitious vision to embrace culture for the wellbeing of all. Inspired by cultural rights, it is to integrate culture in national development with a global outlook that contributes to sustainable development. The policy asserts the principle that culture is dynamic and ever changing, and creative practitioners through culture and the arts are the meaning makers that question and push the boundaries of society. It sets out to achieve a stronger cultural sector led by artists, cultural practitioners, civil society and communities, is fundamental to freedom of expression and to tolerance, and thus to democracy. Indeed, this policy takes a proactive approach to identify and remove barriers to ensure full and equal participation in cultural life. I’m looking forward to seeing what opportunities might arise in the coming period as a result of this appointment. #culturalpolicy #europe #excitingtimes #CultureAndCreativity#CulturalDevelopment #CreativeIndustries #UrbanRegeneration #EconomicDiversification #CulturalTourism #CulturalHeritage #DigitalInnovation #CityDevelopment #ArtAndCulture #CulturalDiplomacy #FutureCities #CulturalExchange Toni Attard

Today Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo an Environmental Engineer took office to become Mexico’s first woman president. A person who never lost touch with class struggle supported by one of the biggest progressive movements in Latinamerica and the world. Morena the 3rd party alternative a coalition of left wing groups broke the corporate neoliberal Bi-Partisanship that ruled the country for over 70 years by electing Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador 6 years ago. Its not perfect and there is alot of contradictions, but after millions of Mexicans lifted out of poverty and sustainable infrastructure projects that will help the country among other things is the reason why the social movement known as the 4th transformation won a historic landslide 60% of the vote and will lead the country for next 6 years. I always look to the Global South, having to be next to the Imperialist forces that have brutally affected the region for decades and yet can still build movements that can last and bring genuine change. Mexico a case study for progressives and an example for the world. Es un honor estar con Claudia hoy🇲🇽👏🏽 #4T #Morena #Sexenio

Polish Success Stories in London: Where Are Our Poles? Why Zielona Granica is a problematic movie? What exactly is the problem? Poles in London have long contributed to the city's rich cultural and professional landscape, from trailblazing artists to innovative entrepreneurs. Yet, as a community, we must ask: Are we lifting each other up or tearing ourselves down? We have had global icons throughout our history, individuals who have left an indelible mark on the world. Yet, sadly, their reputations have often faced criticism—not from outside forces, but from their own people. This pattern raises an important question: why do we sometimes fail to uplift those who represent our culture and achievements on a global stage? Celebrating their contributions and supporting their legacy should be a collective effort. By standing united, we can honour their impact and ensure their stories inspire future generations, rather than being diminished by internal divisions. Let’s choose to celebrate, not criticize.. Other nations fiercely protect their women, even in disagreement. Let’s celebrate Polish talent and stand united. Supporting one another is not just about pride; it’s about ensuring our voices thrive in a global context. Together, we can rise and inspire the world.

🌐 Excited to share my experiences from the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues! I learned and experienced so much in a few short days. The UNFPII was a convergence of cultures and responsibilities—a confluence of the many 'rivers' advocating for Indigenous rights globally. 👀 I was keen to observe the similarities between Indigenous struggles and the solutions we face as a collective—particularly the Colombian, Philippino and Tanzanian challenges with dispossession, persecution and resource exploitation. 💡 I highlighted the challenges and promises of the Canadian landscape amongst colleagues and delegates. I discussed how these experiences are pivotal in understanding, establishing precedent and delivering direction to global Indigenous developments. 🤝Cultural sharing was at the heart of the forum, with music and traditional gifts exchanged with our Chavanche and Lew Chewan relatives from Brazil and Japan. 👥 As delegates, we aimed to share a model that mobilizes Indigenous youth to participate in 'glocal' discussions. --- I organized an intervention and recruited multiple youth delegates from around the globe to present their views, demonstrate their responsibilities, and inform me of what I would speak to, shaping the future of Indigenous youth leadership on the global stage. 🔍 With certainty, our team supported the Tŝilhqotin National Government and its advance to receive nation status at the United Nations General Assembly—a monumental step forward in recognizing and legitimizing Indigenous sovereignties within international frameworks. 📘 The forum was a profound opportunity; it reinforced the importance of integrating traditional Indigenous knowledge with contemporary solutions and practices to create sustainable governance models representative of our traditions. The team at Northwest Indigenous Council presented a framework to empower Indigenous youth in local environments by establishing a network that empowers urban Indigenous self-governance. 🌍 As we move forward, let us carry the lessons learned and the connections made to the global world by acknowledging that our practices as communities and individuals have a global impact. -- Thinking and acting with a 'glocal' perspective is a new responsibility I will integrate into my principled work with Turtle Island Connection, NACCA, Northwest Indigenous Council, and the Tahltan Central Government. #UNPFII #IndigenousRights #GlobalDevelopment #YouthLeadership #CulturalExchange #SustainableGovernance #UNDRIP #GLOCAL
