🔄🌍 Embracing Sustainable Solutions in Fashion! The industry is addressing a crucial concern: recycling PET bottles into textile fibers isn't inherently sustainable. H&M's $600M deal with Syre marks a shift towards more eco-friendly textile-to-textile solutions. Let's lead the way in minimizing waste and building a truly circular fashion economy. #CircularFashion #Sustainability 🌿👗

Recycled polyester isn’t the hero it’s often claimed to be. Using #rPET in #fashion disrupts its potential to be recycled back into a plastic bottle, effectively breaking the circularity chain. Instead of promoting true #sustainability, many fashion brands use this inexpensive material as a tool for #greenwashing. #Deadstock presents a far better alternative—one that upholds the principles of circularity while prioritising quality, sustainability, and genuine accountability. Leather has long been a controversial topic in sustainable fashion.. In recent years, more and more people have been shifting to "vegan leather" in an effort to be more sustainable. But does vegan mean better? Can conventional leather ever be sustainable? What better alternatives are out there? In its current state, the mainstream production of conventional animal leather is linked to serious sustainability issues at each step of the supply chain, often requiring significant energy and harmful chemicals in its production. However, mainstream "vegan leather" is not always a good sustainable alternative — it’s commonly made from different types of plastic polymers, making it neither sustainable nor biodegradable. As a solution, there have been natural, plant-based alternatives to leather slowly reaching the market, made from raw materials like mushrooms, fruit, agricultural and food waste, and even tree leaves, that show the possibility of more sustainable alternatives for “leather” products: 🍊 Polybion (Polybion) 🍄 Ecovative (Ecovative - the mycelium technology company) 👜 Natural Fiber Welding (NFW) 🍃 Biophilica (Biophilica) What do you think about the future of leather and it's alternatives? this initiative is truly interesting! i wonder how informal supply chains can be traceable and transparent fully - often waste changes hands without much of a trace as there is no record of informal transactions especially in developing and emerging countries. However to achieve not only circular but also just supply chains, such initiatives will matter...
We are proud to announce our collaboration with Fashion for Good and Textile Exchange on the two-year initiative, the “Tracing Textile Waste Project”. Enhanced transparency and traceability of textile waste are crucial steps in the development of a more sustainable textile industry. Establishing an open-source data template, creating a glossary of terms, and developing a standardized framework for collecting and exchanging textile waste data are key objectives of this initiative, among others. Our Control Union experts provide essential support to this project, enabling a faster verification process of the reclaimed materials. To know more about how this initiative that aims to harness the potential of textile waste and to develop a circular system in the textile industry, make sure to check the press release below: https://lnkd.in/gF-pxnBk #controlunion #TracingTextileWaste #Traceability #FashionForGood #TextileExchange #CircularEconomy #Recycling #SupplyChainTransparency #Innovation #ESPR

Great reports engage the reader with an instant stark fact. And this new Deloitte report into the need for fashion to embrace the #CircularEconomy does exactly that. Did you know: ‼️The textiles industry accounts for 10% of humanity’s carbon emissions, more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. Although there has been some shift towards circularity in recent years much, much more needs to be done by the textiles industry. The report lays out the new regulations that will, hopefully, force the changes needed to stop the negative impact the industry has on our environment. Read the report and connect with the writers for more insights. #SecondHandFirst

Did you know that only 1% of all post-consumer textiles (used clothes) are recycled into new clothing? Every year $100bn worth of textile waste is produced with m𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝗻𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿, forming a massive mountain of textile waste. Here are some serious issues: → Fabrics are often filled with harmful chemicals →Textile waste in our landfills highlights the unsustainability of the fashion industry in its current state → Every discarded garment is a lost chance for circularity: repurposing, redesigning, recycling, are just some options. → Fast fashion worsens textile waste. It pushes consumers to buy cheap, disposable clothes It's time to close the loop! So how could we move away from a linear system of fashion consumption to a circular fashion system? The textile industry is seeking sustainable solutions. What do you do to help circularity? Do you know of sustainable projects and processes? Fast-fashion has numerous harmful repercussions including destructive environmental impact, the exploitation of workers, and production waste. The poor quality of fast-fashion contributes to the short lifetime of the garments leading to this extensive waste. Sustainability is one of my deepest interests in fashion, and this article outlines just one example of how fast-fashion is destroying more than just our planet. https://lnkd.in/eHAt-XUU

Great piece exploring a proposed textile bill in California! Targeted at textile waste and disposal practices, this bill would require producers to facilitate improved recycling and reuse practices. It would also ensure consumers could return their items to be sustainably repurposed. I'm interested to see how this develops, especially as it addresses the demands for circulation in fashion. How do you see this impacting the global fashion industry? Do you believe this will set a new standard? #EthicalFashion #SustainableFashion #CircularFashion
