In January 2025 Jürgen Haeberle, southern Germany's genius inventor of medical and life science high-tech, moved from the management board to the advisory board of DMTpe, the company he founded 30 years ago.
They called him “Young Punk” at the very beginning of his career at Hewlett-Packard in 1987. Hewlett-Packard wanted to manufacture the new generations of workstations in Böblingen, but the manufacturing costs in southern Germany were simply too high. Inspired by the children's game shown in the photo, Jürgen and the team solved the problem and together invented E-PAC.
60% of the parts of the computer case were eliminated. Where previously 83 screws had to be fitted, now only a few were needed. The assembly time was reduced from 20 to 6 minutes.
This also made it possible to efficiently dismantle and recycle the computers. The first sustainable workstations were presented at CEBIT in 1993. HP rolled out the E-PAC assembly concept worldwide and Jürgen, the young out-of-the-box thinker, and his team, became known within the company and beyond.
In 1994 Jürgen and equally talented colleagues, founded the R&D service provider firm #DMTpe, which stands for Design, Manufacturing, Technology and Product Engineering. Soon, many medium-sized companies and global players from a wide range of industries had their devices developed by DMTpe right up to series readiness.
The company grew and around 2010 the strategic decision was made to focus on medical technology and life science. With a team of interdisciplinary professionals, the company develops components and entire products, from the initial idea to approval and series production.
Today, industry-leading companies such as GE HealthCare, Philips, Agilent, Roche Diagnostics and many others have their components and entire products developed by the ingenious engineers of DMTpe.
The innovations of Jürgen Haeberle and DMTpe stand in the tradition of southern German engineering excellence, made world-famous by names like Daimler, Porsche and Bosch.
