Dr. Church is an expert on production practices on the behavior and management of cattle, elk and bison on farms. His current research program is using drones for Precision Ranching, with a goal towards improved management of both the animals and the land base they depend on. 🌾 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗱  Dr. Renee Prasad is an Associate Professor and Head of the Agriculture Technology Dept at the University of the Fraser Valley. An alumnus of the University of Victoria, Simon Fraser University and Washington State University, Dr. Prasad’s research interests include pest management, agroecology, and field production of vegetable, berry and forage crops. In agriculture, crop diseases significantly impact yield and economic sustainability. Our project focuses on using CNNs to classify guava images into three categories: healthy fruits, fruit flies, and Anthracnose disease. By preprocessing datasets and augmenting images, we achieved a promising 88.48% accuracy in identifying diseased fruits even under varying environmental conditions. Our model demonstrates the potential of AI in addressing real-world agricultural challenges, aiming to enhance food security and promote sustainable farming practices. What I’ve Learned Along the Way - As I’ve continued to deepen my knowledge in agriculture, my journey has evolved from theory to real-world application, particularly through my studies in Agricultural Biotechnology. This field opened my eyes to the vast potential of science in improving agricultural productivity and sustainability. - In school, I learned about the powerful role of genetic engineering and plant breeding in addressing challenges like crop diseases and pest infestations.
