#Women contribute 7 to 9% to Africa's GDP and represent over 40% of the labour force in #CentralAfrica (#ECCAS). Despite their contributive role in fostering #economic #development in the sub-region, women are continously relegated to play the second fiddle role in the patriarchal system of production where roles and responsibilities are a attributed by sex. #Empowering women to enable them compete #equally with their male counterparts for societal #opportunities is key to curbing their #vulnerability and making their #voices heard. Empowerment should begin from a #change of #mindset, a go-getting or conquering #emotionalintelligence which does not wait for validation from men but earns esteem and respect by know- how and meritocracy without being apologetic. 📢 In early September, our Project Manager Hengameh attended a powerful training on ‘Approaching & Addressing Racist Violence and Hate Crime’ hosted by UNHCR GREECE and facilitated by The Racist Violence Recording Network RVRN - Δίκτυο Καταγραφής Περιστατικών Ρατσιστικής Βίας. The training focused on several critical topics related to recognizing and addressing incidents of racist violence: 1. Recognizing and Addressing Incidents of Racist Violence 2. Special Needs of Victims of Racist Crime 3. Importance of Recording Incidents 4. Submitting Data on Incidents 5. Becoming Members of the Network 👉 FYI:The Racist Violence Recording Network (RVRN) in Greece is an initiative aimed at documenting and addressing incidents of racist violence and hate crimes. Established in 2011, it brings together various organizations, human rights groups, and legal entities, to systematically record incidents of violence based on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and other forms of discrimination. Amid the #Anglophonecrisis in #Cameroon, civilians face unimaginable horrors, including sexual violence used as a weapon of war. This isn't just a statistic—it's a stark reality for women, men, girls, and boys whose lives are torn apart by these brutal acts. Reports reveal alarming numbers: over 1,000 cases of conflict-related sexual violence reported in 2019 alone. These atrocities, including #rape, #forcedmarriages, and abductions, not only target individuals but also entire communities, perpetuating fear and control. The consequences are devastating: survivors endure physical harm, #psychologicaltrauma, and endure social stigma. The impact on families and communities is profound, hindering peace and stability in already volatile regions. Legal frameworks exist, but implementation remains a challenge. Cameroon has ratified key treaties condemning sexual violence, yet gaps persist in translating international commitments into effective national laws. Justice for survivors is often elusive, with impunity allowing perpetrators to continue their crimes unchecked. It's time for action. In this article Muriel Kinkoh calls on governments, international bodies, and civil society to strengthen support for survivors, enhance legal mechanisms, and ensure accountability. As we all watched the election results unfold late last night, I know many felt the weight of what this means for our identity and future as a nation. This is not just a moment of political change; it’s a critical juncture that threatens the safety and well-being of immigrant communities across the country, especially survivors of violence.  At the Tahirih Justice Center, we value the safety, healing, and justice that immigrant women, girls, and LGBTQIA+ identifying people deserve.   Now is the time to take action.
