💵🧠 Minted a million to develop less invasive neural implants https://hubs.ly/Q02Y9NLM0 MintNeuro, an Imperial spinout developing semiconductor technology for minimally invasive neural implants, has closed a £1 million funding round led by Empirical Ventures, including support from Imperial College Enterprise Fund and MedTech SuperConnector. This fundraise will enable MintNeuro to advance the development of their low-power semiconductor chips, making implants smaller, more efficient, and accessible, thus significantly reducing the need for invasive surgical procedures. By accelerating innovation, MintNeuro aims to make neural implants a practical solution for conditions like epilepsy, Parkinson’s, and dementia by working with partners like Amber Therapeutics, Innovate UK and Imperial College London. 🎉Congratulations to Timothy Constandinou, Dorian Haci, PhD and everybody involved!

Paris-based startup Robeauté aims to start human trials next year, having raised €27.2 million for technology advancement. 3. The new technology is seen as revolutionary, similar to how endoscopes transformed gastrointestinal medicine. 4. Current neurosurgery methods are invasive, involving stiff tools that can be dangerous. 5. Robeauté's microrobots can be introduced through a tiny 3mm burr hole and move in curved paths to reach difficult areas in the brain. 6. The microrobots are designed to be less damaging than traditional tools like neurosurgical needles, according to co-founder Joana Cartocci. 7. They feature a tiny engine allowing them to follow a guided path set by a neurosurgeon, with real-time tracking capabilities. 8. The robots have been tested in animals as biopsy tools and can also deliver drugs, implant electrodes, and collect data samples. 9. Robeauté is collaborating with regulatory authorities to enable their use in neurosurgical settings. 10. If human trials succeed, the startup anticipates regulatory approval for drug delivery using the microrobots by 2030.

Let's revisit the work of our colleagues of the Listen2Future Use case 4-Ultrasonic Stimulation of Hair Follicle Stem Cells for Hair Implant, at the University of Granada, Spain. The team is developing an ultrasonic helmet and bioreactor prototypes to stimulate hair follicle stem cells, offering a less invasive and more effective hair transplant solution, especially for women experiencing chemotherapy-induced alopecia. The project involves researchers from the University of Granada's SMD Group, Ultrasonics Lab, and Biomedical Research Centre. After a year of work, they have defined key cell lines, improved cell growth time with additives like Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and made significant progress in the development of an ultrasonic helmet to ensure ease of use. The therapy uses stem cells to regenerate hair follicles, offering a breakthrough in hair restoration for people suffering from hair loss due to chemotherapy. The ultrasonic helmet enhances this process, making it more efficient and non-invasive. Neurological disorders impact over a billion people globally, but current treatments, especially drugs, often lack effectiveness. Neural implants present an alternative, though existing options are typically bulky, power-hungry, and require invasive surgery. 99% of people who could benefit from deep brain stimulation refuse because it requires major open brain surgery with needles implanted into the deep brain regions.
