Surrey Wildlife Trust has launched a campaign to raise £1m to help reverse the loss of biodiversity in Surrey. https://lnkd.in/eG9aEDtA The Surrey Wildlife Trust’s fundraising drive will focus on its target of restoring 30% of UK land and sea for nature by 2030. One in six species at risk of extinction in the UK, the Save Surrey’s Nature campaign will focus on the Trust’s plans to work on its reserves and with partners across the county to restore and expand Surrey’s most diverse and threatened habitats including nationally-significant heathland and chalk grassland as well as vital woodlands and wetlands to help the wildlife that lives there. Species in particular need of conservation action, which can also act as indicators of the wider health of the habitats they live in, include: Nightingale Yellowhammer European Eel Harvest Mouse Sand Lizard Hairstreak butterflies #nature #wildlife #biodiversity #habitats #environment #sustainability #education #climatechange https://lnkd.in/emNYhGY7

I am happy and honored to announce that Woodland Park Zoo has received a transformative grant from Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies to expand our Advancing Conservation through Empathy for Wildlife Initiative—a learning network of 27 accredited zoos and aquariums and more than 550 affiliated professionals around the world. Empathy is a core pillar of Woodland Park Zoo’s Strategic Plan. It allows people to connect their concern for the wellbeing of animals to the importance of acting in caring ways, including protecting the environment upon which both people and animals depend. Woodland Park Zoo’s leadership in advancing empathy learnings and best practices within the zoo and aquarium community spans more than a decade. At the heart of this effort today is the Advancing Conservation through Empathy (ACE) for Wildlife™ Network, which began with 20 founding AZA-accredited partners in Alaska, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Washington and Wisconsin. The Network has since expanded to 27 network partner organizations across 13 states and has grown to include more than 550 participating professionals across five continents. https://lnkd.in/gbGqBFnS #ThisIsHowWeZoo, #WoodlandParkZoo, #WildlifeConservation, #ACEforWildlife, #zoos, #aquariums, #biodiversityconservation, #empathy

What did you do to celebrate #WorldWildlifeDay yesterday? We were out in the field planting trees in the sunshine. 🌞🌳 Changes in land use over the last hundred years have led to a staggering decline in nature in the UK. For example, Bristol lost 96% of its swift and starling population between 1994 and 2014. At Avon Needs Trees, we work collaboratively and align our efforts with Local Nature Recovery Strategies to connect existing wildlife habitats – doing our part to halt and reverse the decline in biodiversity. 🌱🦋 Landscape scale projects like the Lower Chew Forest are fundamentally important in the region for connecting existing habitats which our local wildlife depend on. With just 10 days left on our fundraising campaign, there is a limited time left to be part of this momentous movement for wildlife. ⏱ Visit our website www.avonneedstrees.org.uk to help make this woodland a reality today. #AvonNeedsTrees #LowerChewForest #ClimateAction #WildlifeRecovery #LocalNatureRecoveryStrategy #Nature #Wildlife #Biodiversity #CharityPartner #NatureRecovery #Bristol #Bath #Keynsham #NatureRecoveryNetwork #SoilHealth #BristolAvon #Wetland #Grassland #EthicalBusiness #Sustainabilitygoals #Biodiversity #CollaberationForChange #ClimateActionBristol #Trees

It's #NationalWildlifeRefugeWeek! Did you know the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the only federal agency dedicated solely to wildlife conservation? With the biodiversity crisis accelerating —21 species declared extinct last year and 2 million at risk—they are critical partners in building wildlife and habitat resiliency. But it’s not just about protecting wildlife; U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is also committed to expanding equitable access to nature. Their Urban Wildlife Conservation Program is making strides in improving green space access in cities across the country. With over 560 national wildlife refuges, including 101 urban ones close to major cities, there’s still more work to do. Local communities are calling for action to protect more land from development and climate impacts.
