Again and again. This is not unsurprising. #carboncredits, #naturepositive, #offsets are just bywords for #greenwashing. Corporate Australia cannot be trusted to act with integrity any more than governments and political parties who profit from unethical corporate behaviour. The solutions are there, but those who hold the power (corporates and government) are doing whatever they can to undermine them. There is an option. It is as simple as these groups taking full responsibility for their action and for what they claim to promise. https://lnkd.in/gJ3-4c23

We continue to lie to ourselves that we are doing a good job. Policies and regulations surrounding #carboncredits, #offsets, #naturepositive have been formulated to fail because of exemptions, under-reporting, exclusions, facile regulation, and no consequences beyond leaving the world in a worst state in the future. Sure, there may be small pockets of examples of how it really should be done, but these will never make up for the greater volume of unethical corrupt practices. So few seem to care enough, but they are up against industries that have built their money-making empires around corrupting the legislation and the policies, more than happy to gather their wealth while they actively incinerate the future of this country in the process. And when they are exposed, the best they can do is point fingers at everyone else. The recipe for doing the right thing has been there all along. If they did the right thing, we would not be in this situation. If they did the right thing they could claim some level of integrity. Unfortunately, they cannot because they continue to refuse to do the right thing. The only winners here are another collection of unethical dishonourable sector; those involved in #greenwashing. https://lnkd.in/gbTkxERJ

Yet another instance where outcome does not match what is intended and we see ineffective #carboncredits. Without a rigorous cap and trade scheme, our biggest polluters can continue being our biggest polluters. Access to unlimited supply of offsets with undetermined impact (at time of issue) will not force transition at a rate to meet 1.5 degree targets. #climate #greenwashing
This has to stop. Meaningless #carboncredits (which, to be clear, don't account for all carbon credits) are the ultimate #greenwash, giving large polluters a false social licence to operate. https://lnkd.in/gDyveGBY

Look at all the cowardly shysters, fraudsters, prevaricators, and leaners run when there is the possibility they may actually be asked to take on responsibility for their actions. 😂 BTW this is the BCA having a whinge and moan, not the renewable sector. They are confecting a concern that doesn't exist. In reality they are bemoaning their ignorant self-serving ideological dogma might be at risk. #environmentalresponsibility #naturepositive #greenwashing #misinformation #misrepresentation #corporatecorruption

The justification of an economic sector on commercial grounds is NOT justification for continued #pollution, release of #emissions, and loss of #biodiversity and general #environmentalirresponsibility. Too often the "future" is shrouded in #shorttermism. There is almost always a solution, but it would require changes in the thought processes and away from the imperative of #profit over all else. We see this attempt to nullify and avoid actions that may improve a sector on a regular basis. The #extractiveresourcesector is a great example of the creation of the myth of environmental responsibility and sustainability. The full impact they have is, in collusion with government and regulators and with the support of the community, always hidden through the myths of #carboncredits, #naturepositive, #CarbonCapture, #offsets and through omission (e.g., ignoring Scope 3 emissions in determining impacts of projects, not including cumulative impacts in assessments). This dive to lower and lower standards is further bolstered by the lack of effective controls and regulations, primarily driven the (ironically) very effective lobbying from the sector. The short-term profit gain cannot in any way justify the long-term pain they will impose on the community. To repeat, there is almost always a solution, but the lying, misrepresentation, misinformation, and prevarication has to stop. To own a problem is to be able to focus on resolving it. #environmentalfallacy

The U.S. Supreme Court has allowed a Biden administration rule targeting planet-warming pollution from coal-fired power plants to stay in place while legal battles continue. Despite dissent from Justice Clarence Thomas and concerns from Justices Kavanaugh and Gorsuch, the rule remains active, marking a key environmental win. #EnvironmentalJustice #ClimateAction #CleanEnergy #EPA #SupremeCourt #CoalPollution #BidenAdministration #NetZero #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #ClimateCrisis https://loom.ly/w9YhZ2Y

Sometimes, it takes a pause, calculated steps to launch forward logical policies. Intention shouldnt be to promote offsets, but promote & fund resource management and circularity of nature. Carrot & stick should come hand in hand, with structure.

The EU Parliament is showing support for permanent removals to compensate for residual fossil fuel emissions. 🏭 On March 11th, EU Parliamentarians voted on the EU Green Claims Directive which seeks new criteria to stop companies from making misleading claims about environmental merits of their products and services and allow consumers to make informed environmental choices. Rule makers are therefore stepping up to regulate the use of carbon credits from the voluntary carbon market. Puro.earth welcomes the position of the EU Parliament which includes a “like for like” approach to the use of carbon credits. Therefore, only residual fossil fuel emissions should be compensated by permanent carbon removals. We believe that this can support activities which deliver the net in net-zero emissions and help consumers make informed choices. There are many issues that will need to be discussed during the next year, and we welcome that this position is open to permanent carbon removals globally, and are keen to find out more about the definition of residual emissions. Next steps: This is not a final political agreement between all EU institutions, this is only the position of the EU Parliament. The Member States are deciding their position, and we expect that the debate will continue after the EU elections. Given there are processes to implement, the EU Green Claims Directive should go-live from 2026. EU Parliament press release: https://hubs.ly/Q02prXPT0 EU Commission factsheet from when the proposal was issued in March 2023 https://hubs.ly/Q02prXzS0 Act now and add carbon removal to your climate actions by purchasing CORCs from Puro-certified suppliers here: https://hubs.ly/Q02prV8S0
