So I got a really nice message yesterday from a casting director that while I wasn't chosen for a role I auditioned for, it was literally down to me and the person they ended up choosing, and now I'm on their radar for the future. I'm so grateful to have gotten that message and that they took time out of their day to send a growing VA some awesome affirmation, but it also got me thinking about how often we as actors do NOT get that message, and what that means for us. Oftentimes, we'll never know how far we got in the process. We send, forget, and 99 times out of 100, we'll hear absolutely nothing unless we book it (which is totally fair, people are busy). Even the dreaded rejection letter likely won't tell you exactly where you were in the casting process. That may sound like a bummer but honestly, it's helped me put this whole audition beat into perspective. Casting deserves all the credit, having to listen to hundreds and hundreds of auditions all the time. But they hear more than just "good" and "not good". They'll hear your choices and ideas and energy; they might hear things they never thought of for the sides. Even if you don't book, an earnest audition may just be enough for them to remember you down the line. That's all the more reason to give it your all in every audition that comes your way. Each one is an opportunity to grow and try new things, and you'll never really know just how your read will resonate with whoever's listening. Booking is a goal we all inevitably have. But the energy we put out into the space--regardless of booking--is what makes the artistic process so damn gratifying. Just keep at it, y'all. #voiceactor #voiceover #vo #audition #motivation #careergrowth #voiceacting #casting

Is it okay to decline an audition? Absolutely. As actors, it can feel daunting to turn down auditions—but staying true to your values gives you autonomy and helps you to feel good about your career choices. Not every role is the right fit, and that’s okay! However, you want to stay ahead of the curveball by openly communicating your boundaries with your reps so they know what’s right for you, whether you inform them in the meeting before you sign with them or later on as your values evolve. If you get pushback from your reps, stand firm and respectfully advocate for yourself. Whatever you do, never be an audition NO SHOW! Keep the communication between your reps strong. Have you ever had to decline an audition? How did it feel, and how did your team respond? Let’s talk about standing up for what matters to us! 👇🏽 #ActingLessons #Auditions #ActorTips #MoralCompass #Businessofacting #actors

What truly enables you to secure next-level roles is your ability to be fully free, purposeful, and open. What leads to bookings is simply your capacity to be YOU. This doesn't mean there's something inherently wrong with you that needs fixing. Rather, atop the free and full version of yourself, there lies a thick layer of conditioning. As a result, the task at hand is to reset your instrument so you can show up pure, just as you did when you were a child, before being programmed by external authorities (your parents, the school system, society). That’s precisely what the industry seeks from you. Casting directors, directors, and the audience want you to be capable of showing up 100% alive. When you manage to do so, bookings become merely a consequence of feeling incredibly free, present, open, and purposeful. #acting #actingcoach #actingtips #actors #actorsuccess

I am a coward but you don't have to be. Recently there was an MC audition which I totally flaked for. I prepared my script but didn't have the time to practice and when I was walking to the room, I got intimidated by the energy and immediately my brain said nope! and I turned and walked off from the audition. Even though I'm comfortable on stage, I couldn't push through that moment of doubt. But here’s what I’ve learned, and three ways to avoid letting fear get the best of you—straight from someone who has been there: ✅Prepare: Being prepared to a high level, is one of the most practical ways to be confident. ✅Being Early: You should be early to any meeting you have, or an audition or presentation, it helps you to set the mood and adapt to the environment quickly. ✅Practice: I need not say more. “Practice makent man perfect” 😉 Here’s to not losing our opportunities all because we decided at the moment that we couldn't PS: What point do you think is the most important?

✨ Pro tip: take that interview request that seems slightly off topic for what you normally do. You could end up stretching yourself and learning new skills. You could also tap into a new audience, like I did with this interview. That video now has over 8K views on my YouTube channel and comments from folks saying it was one of the better interviews they'd seen for this movie. Check it out and let me know what you think! #TBT #ThrowbackThursday #EntertainmentNews #YouTubeChannel
