Last week, CISA released Binding Operational Directive 25-01 (BOD 25-01), titled "Implementing Secure Practices for Cloud Services." Key Milestones Include: ✅ Identifying all cloud tenants within scope by February 21, 2025. ✅ Deploying SCuBA assessment tools and starting continuous reporting by April 25, 2025. ✅ Fully implementing mandatory SCuBA policies by June 20, 2025. This directive focuses on strengthening the security of cloud services by mitigating risks related to misconfigurations and weak controls. October 7th marked my 5-year anniversary with Palo Alto Networks, and I have to take a minute to say how thankful I am for this company. During my time at RSA, I learned what security teams were struggling with, and I saw what a company driven first and foremost to spend as little as possible to stay just relevant enough in the market was like, and it wore on me. We had the basic tools to deliver revolutionary security, but refused to invest enough to make them work cohesively. (I'm extremely grateful for my time at RSA, and they are not by any means the only company operating this way.) I saw PANW as a company that was doing things differently. Five and a half years ago, they were already stitching together network, endpoint, and cloud data in ways that were actually useful for analysts. It seemed obvious to me that they would enter the SIEM market at some point. I learned why our NGFWs were so highly regarded. I learned how great our Prisma Cloud security portfolio was. I decided it was the only place to be, so I luckily convinced some people that I was the best fit for the opening in my area. Looking back, I was both absolutely right, but also underestimating what we would do. XSIAM is so much more than SIEM, in ways that nobody else in the industry will catch up to for some time, and that make a real difference for customers / practitioners. While not every product or feature we've built is perfect on day one, I can puff out my chest and say that we WILL make every product we build work well. Every company we've acquired in my 5 years here has been integrated into one of our 3 platforms (Strata, Cortex, and Prisma Cloud) in months, not years. Is there any other company that is this good at integrating companies, technologies, and *cultures* as PANW? Palo Alto Networks is a company I'm proud to represent because it focuses first and foremost on providing solutions to customer problems, and lets everything else take care of itself. It's also a company with an inclusive and welcoming culture that mirrors my own values. It's where I hope I can be for the rest of my career. I would be remiss if I didn't shout out the people who helped get me in the door: Kevin Flanagan, LeRoy Krous, Mike Gotham, and several others.
