Getting closer to upcoming heating season in many countries, including Latvia, governments are increasingly implementing targeted financial support for households struggling with rising energy costs, especially in cases of price surges. This process requires precise, up-to-date information on market prices to ensure that public funds are allocated efficiently and fairly. Our Biomass Exchange provides a transparent marketplace where real-time biomass prices are available for all participants, including governments, public institutions, and private companies. With this data, authorities can ensure that subsidies or financial aid are calculated based on actual market conditions, avoiding overpayments or misallocation of funds. For instance, when the price of biomass or other energy resources fluctuates dramatically, transparent exchanges like BALTPOOL ensure that the government’s intervention aligns with market realities. This level of transparency guarantees that public money supports households and businesses effectively, without creating market distortions or inefficiencies. Read more of the example, of how Latvia’s government will be using Baltpool’s Biomass Exchange pellet SPOT price index as a key reference for energy pricing here: https://lnkd.in/dvzN8nmy #BiomassExchange #Transparency #EnergySector #PublicFunding #SustainableEnergy #EfficientResourceAllocation #Baltpool #woodpellet #biomass #ExpertInsight

Could an old shed in Western Australia really help us get to #netzero? A mining major is betting on it… Mining giant, Rio Tinto, is investing in a new R&D facility near Perth, Australia to further efforts to decarbonise steelmaking. Bioiron - Never heard of it? Combine iron ore, biomass, and microwave energy, and Rio Tinto think they, and partners at the University of Nottingham, Metso and Sedgeman Onyx, might take us another step closer to better managing climate change by reducing emissions from a process key to industry and societies around the world. With significant iron ore in its asset portfolio and climate goals to reach, the company has a vested interest in its success. Their hopes lie with a new process. To read more, see below… #lowcarbon #steelmaking #mining #metals #iron #decarbonization #decarbonisation
We're finding ways to decarbonise steelmaking by building a new research and development facility in Western Australia to assess the effectiveness of our low-carbon ironmaking process, BioIron™. BioIron uses raw biomass and microwave energy instead of coal to convert Pilbara iron ore to metallic iron in the steelmaking process. When combined with the use of renewable energy and carbon-circulation by fast-growing biomass, BioIron has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by up to 95% compared with the current blast furnace method. The plant has been designed in collaboration with University of Nottingham, Metso and engineering company Sedgman Onyx Pty Ltd. Check out the 📽️ below for how the process works 👇. #FindingBetterWays #SteelMaking #decarbonisation

Yesterday was an outstanding milestone for Rio Tinto. They announced the next stage of development for their low-carbon ironmaking process, BioIron through building the BioIron Research and Development Facility in the Rockingham Besides the technology, what I love about this announcement is the transparency. The BioIron process has been under development for over a decade. Developing innovative, hard tech often takes decades, which requires dedicated teams and patient capital. Even with all that, not all technologies scale-up or deliver on their initial potential. It's also not touted as a commercial-ready or silver bullet. What works for one type of iron ore, may not work for another type of ore. Pilbara ores have unique challenges than other types of ores, and there will be many different technologies explored and deployed for decarbonisation. Lastly, they've developed the process through collaboration with the University of Nottingham, Metso and Sedgeman Onyx. Much more often than not, great technologies are developed through collaboration. I cannot wait to see the outcomes from this R&D facility, and further development of this process. #innovation #sustainability #strategy

What on earth is bio-refining? The answer will be explained by Gianluca Chiodini of Enilive and Euan Nicolson of Aon at the Onshore Energy Conference London on the 5th November 2024. ❗ Effectively think how a petrochemical plant produces useful products from crude oil. In bio-refining, useful products are produced from biomass type material. 🌴 As we move away from oil consumption this area of bio-refining will become more significant and it ties agricultural production into product manufacturing, with some interesting consequences for food production. Think of growing corn to make bio-ethanol to go in gasoline. 🌽 🎫 There are very few spaces remaing, secure your spot now: https://lnkd.in/dAVYQG2S 📅 View the full agenda here: https://lnkd.in/dqvNCRZs #oec2024 #energytransition #conferences2024 #conferencesnovember #convene #conferenceslondon #energyinsurance #renewables #onshore #energytransition #power #biorefining #aon #enilive
