My latest review: Thoughts from a Sumptuous Sunday Lunch On a recent visit to my local best-kept secret, the head chef shared his thoughts on local patronage. He was not complaining, but our conversation began my thought process about human nature and decision-making when considering our friendly neighbourhood eateries. As a rule, people in the UK moreover visit a pub or chain that whips you in and then whips you out as fast as saying what you would like to order and then not give you another thought, and then, the cost at the end is earth-shatteringly high, considering the experience. This brought me to the question: Where are the days of leisurely dining gone? Where has the art of inhaling and savouring our surroundings and enjoying the moment gone? People seem to be okay with paying more for churned-out food, with no thought of quality in sight; people are led to believe they are getting a bargain. If people took a little time to dig deep, they might find that little gem within walking distance and just around the corner a friendlier option. It may be that the restaurants' usual offerings are a little more than the churn-in, churn-out options of other destinations or that you keep your little gem for those special occasions in your life, but unbeknownst to you, they have Sunday lunch offerings for a very tasteful price tag—a price tag that you don't mind because of the service, the quality and the surroundings. A little time goes a long way when finding out where to go for a lovely Sunday lunch. Spending 10 minutes locating that little gem around the corner on a Sunday might pay off, and you will find it becomes your new Sunday local.

I used to live in a hotel. It was a luxurious 5-star hotel suite and we could eat at any of the hotel restaurants and charge it to the company. My husband had a very senior position working for one of the biggest multinationals in the world, and they looked after us well. In fact, living in hotels (this happened more than once) happened for months at a time while we were waiting for a company house, suitable for entertaining guests, to be renovated and decorated. We bought a microwave and kettle for our hotel suite to cook scrambled eggs and baked beans. Sometimes we heated pasta sauces. Rich hotel food just didn’t appeal day after day! We craved healthy, fairly plain food. Eating out is lovely and a privilege, but many of my clients struggle because they have so many work commitments which revolve around entertaining or team meetings at restaurants. The weight piles on and they feel under par. After years of research, learning how to decipher, order from any menu, testing and having the wherewithal to politely ~ but casually order healthy food has proven to be one part of my coaching programme that has made a big impact. Why are you showing me your breakfast I hear you ask? Well it’s a valid question….. All I hear from people across Northern Europe, particularly clients from the UK & Ireland, is the cost of living is crazy at home. The cost of groceries is just crazy at home. Cost of dining out is crazy at home. Life is getting tough, can’t afford the heating costs & we are only in September (ok only for a few more hours) But back to why I am showing you a photo of my breakfast this Monday Sept 30th. My breakfast cost 3.95€ for freshly squeezed orange juice, amazing fresh coffee & my toast with olive oil & tomatoes…..3.95€ That pretty much sums up the cost of living on the Costa Calida in Murcia & as the temperature was over 30 degrees today, no heating or raincoats required😎 Life is good & not that expensive.
