🌍Conservation Leadership🌱 A nice research review of 662 site-based conservation projects from 102 countries further verifies what we hold as a core value at Planet Indonesia - when local leadership of conservation is put at the center the "likelihood of achieving social and conservation outcomes is far higher." The authors found "the role of IPs & LCs ranges from exclusion to partial involvement as participants, stakeholders, or partners, and through to primary or complete control over governance of an ecosystem or landscape" and the further you move towards complete control, the more "[likely] to achieve positive social and conservation outcomes." The study also uncovers persistent inequalities in knowledge production, with a disproportionate amount of research on site-based conservation below the equator lead by authors in the Global North. The findings underscore the importance of decolonizing conservation practices by centering IPs & LCs in decision-making processes.
