As National Donate Life Month approaches, I find myself deeply reflective and overwhelmingly grateful. This month isn't just a period on the calendar; it's a profound celebration of life, a time to honor the selfless donors and their families whose decisions have made life possible for many, including myself. I am here today, able to share this message, because of an extraordinary act of kindness—a decision made by a donor and their family during an unimaginably difficult time. Their generosity gave me a second chance at life, and words cannot express the depth of my gratitude. They are heroes in the truest sense, embodying compassion and selflessness. National Donate Life Month is an opportunity for us all to recognize and appreciate the gift of life that organ donation represents. It's a time to celebrate the lives saved, to acknowledge the ongoing need for organ donors, and to inspire others to consider becoming a part of this life-affirming process. Becoming an organ donor is a simple yet impactful decision. By registering as a donor, you have the power to save up to eight lives through organ donation and enhance many more through tissue donation. Moreover, living donation offers another profound opportunity to change lives, allowing individuals to donate a kidney or a part of the liver to someone in need. If you've ever considered becoming a donor—whether living or at the end of life—I encourage you to take the next step. Learn more, talk with your family, and register your decision. The Fundraising Regulator, Charity Commission for England and Wales, and Action Fraud have joined forces to remind people how to give with confidence over the festive period. Christmas is a time when people across the UK are more likely to donate to charity than at any other time of the year. However, donors must remain vigilant. Last year, there were 484 reports of charity-related fraud and cyber-crime, resulting in a total loss of £1,177,773. Those behind these cyber attacks take advantage of public generosity by creating fake appeal websites, sending email appeals that falsely use the names of genuine charities, and launching appeals from fake charities. To help you give safely this Christmas, the regulators have provided simple steps for safer giving:

Fantastic webinar from Imagine Canada and Bruce MacDonald around the state of the nonprofit sector. Some of my biggest takeaways include: - the percentage of people donating is at an ALL TIME LOW but the amount of individual donations are UP and the largest age demographic donating is 60+ - donations are largely going to the larger nonprofit organizations - there continues to be an increase in demand for nonprofit services, including environmental based orgs - 81% of Canadians feel charities are ESSENTIAL to our wellbeing.
