Lessons I learned from the graveyard 🥲 On Friday, the 16th of August, I spent about 4 hours at the Abuja Christian cemetery, and within this short period, I witnessed the burial of 5 different people. This was scary at first but later startled. Here are my key takeaways: 1. Life is everything when living but nothing at death, 2. Life is not short, we only think that we have forever to live on earth 3. Learn to live full at the moment as much as you can because we all die empty 4. There are many people yet to figure out why they are on earth and death doesn't mean anything to them until it happens 5. Some people were crashing out while others mourned: The diggers, mason men, iron benders, tilers, rental providers, and all. For this set of people, death is an opportunity 6. The most interesting set I perceived at the graveyard were thieves. I watched as 2 mourners lost their phones. The thieves, I could not figure out why the graveyard. The story of one young man’s death, while tragic, adds nothing to the demise of this country, historically plagued with occupation and political upheavals. Democracy is a fragile commodity in Hati, undermined by constant despotism, kingships and factions fighting for control, or some form of it. Haiti, also struggles as a strategic Caribbean location. After the early French occupation, France by force, extorted the life blood of the countries economy, only recently semi acknowledged by France, with reparation talk, being just that, talk. The U. S. has sent marines to the island for a second time in history, with the country being a target since the Marshall Plan, recognised its importance via-a-vie, european influence close to our shores. However, large sums of money have also been removed from the country, cloistered in U.S.banks, while Haiti struggles to drive some form of failed economy, breeding these fractional gangs. However, throwing money there, would be akin to a gambler chasing his losses. Whether the country is even capable of democratic rule is a real question. Partially answered in the negative by the return from exile in Kenya, of PM Henry to power, along with Kenyan troops. I have little faith in thier future.
