Disability inclusion is a right, not a privilege. Our solution today is a small step towards accessibility in schools. Kavita Golyan, a teacher from Prerana Educational Centre is a person with vision disability who has replicated regular annual report cards in braille! This allows students with vision disability to independently and repeatedly check their marks, satisfying their curiosity and boosting their confidence. Kavita shared, "We've witnessed pure joy on the students’ faces as they can now read their own results without any assistance." Video description: Kavita Golyan explains this solution video. She is sitting on a chair in a classroom and has kept her braille report cards in front of her. Generally, students in her organization have been provided with annual report cards written in pen. She explains that students with vision disability are curious about their marks and repeatedly ask their parents or teachers about it. Keeping this issue in mind, she has come up with her solution, a traditional scorecard written in pen and braille. The braille scorecard has a front cover. The gradings system inside is given on the left-hand side, and on the right-hand side are the marks along with the subjects. #Accessibility #Inclusion #Community #Innovation #ProjectDiscovery #EveryOneAnInnovator #BreakFreeSolutions #InclusiveEducation #AccessibilityInSchools

This week's #TransitionTip is to support students with disabilities in planning their transition to independent living by empowering them to learn essential daily living skills. A step-by-step formula to guide the process: 🔘 Identify Key Skills: list daily skills needed for independence, like cooking basics, using public transport, or managing money. 🔘 Step-by-Step Learning: break down each skill into small, manageable steps. Demonstrate, then guide them through each step. 🔘 Create Routine Tasks: incorporate these skills into daily routines for practice, like preparing a simple meal each week. 🔘 Use Visual Guides: develop visual aids or checklists for tasks to help them remember the steps. 🔘 Celebrate Progress: acknowledge achievements, no matter how small, to build confidence and motivation.

"Discovering the universal language of Sign was a revelation during my journey into Community Disability Program. Learning sign from batchmates across the Northeast, I realized the power of communication beyond verbal boundaries. Note : This video aims to provide a very basic way to communicate using sign (ISL)for those who are new to this (like me ) for easy communication and to spread awareness and make communication accessible to all, (and not a sign language course )bridging the gap for those who may not understand verbal language. Let's embrace inclusivity and celebrate the beauty of Sign Language. 🤟 📌 Lets come forward as a community and share learnings. #SignLanguageAwareness #InclusiveCommunication" https://lnkd.in/gn-FVpaG

Good reflection questions found here. ‘For reflection How well do I understand what motivates or supports a child or young person in my learning community to participate? And what could I do to improve my understanding and knowledge? Do children and young people have choice and autonomy in how they participate in their learning environment? What adjustments or modifications can I make to activities that ensure children can participate according to their strengths, abilities or interests?’

In this powerful conversation, Celena and Cheryl discuss the importance of advocating for introverted children in the classroom. They highlight the need for differentiated opportunities and the harmful effects of forcing all students to conform to a one-size-fits-all approach. The urgency of women's underrepresentation in STEM fields and the important role of parents is underscored by your insights, prompting essential questions about the persistent challenges in achieving gender and racial diversity in STEAM fields. Despite the presence of valuable resources like #BlackGirlsCode, #GEMS, #MillionWomenMentors, #STEMPedia, #STEMLearning, #STEMEducationWork, Steven Institute of Technology, University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University, Stelenbosch University in South Africa, and others, Professional Development Resources for Women in STEM (eie.org), to mention few resources and phenomenal mentors like yourself, Gladys Delancey- Bolding Ph.D., and others mentors and outreach advocates like Stephanie Espy, Stephanie Garcia, Ms Kim (Sally kimangu), Gladys Delancey- Bolding Ph.D., Amrita Madabushi, Lucy Mwaniki, Caroline Nyaga, Poh Tan PhD, PhD, Jamie Green, PhD, Erica Bass-Flimmons Ph.D., Colleen Kelley, Ph.D., Dr. Gwendolyn Lavert, Denise Analee Spiller, Nkiru Onuko, Adanma Ugwu, Angelica Corral, Gaone Rantlhoiwa, Nancy O'Neill, Treesa Elam-Respass, Ed.D., Deborah Branch, Danne Smith Mathis, FRSA, MPW, CF APMP, Chiyedza Nyahuye, Teshell Ponteen Greene, PhD, Rachna Nath, Pamela Joslyn, Alycia Marshall, Ph.D., Rose-Margaret Ekeng-Itua, Pamela Pape-Lindstrom, Ph.D., Lisa Blank, Lisa Mae Crawford, Lisa Munoz, we continue to see a low representation of women, particularly minority women, in these fields. We would love to hear your thoughts on this subject matter. Am I wrong? All these women mentors, advocates, and others mentioned above are working hard on outreach, providing resources in person, professionally, and through other means like podcasts or audio rooms, and inviting speakers and guest speakers as resources. Some of the women mentors mentioned above are professors, CEOs, and leaders of various organizations. This is a testament that women can lead. I have collaborated with many of them. And I know! Suppose there are resources and women mentors like the women leaders I mentioned above. What barriers hinder the progress towards equal representation for women in STEAM disciplines, including black/brown women and their white counterparts? We would like your thoughts on these urgent questions, especially regarding resources and women mentors. As the new school year begins, it's crucial that we guide our children in understanding the importance of kindness and inclusion. In a simple conversation with your child, remind them that every person is unique and that these differences are what make us all special. Encourage them to be the friend who smiles, says hello, and includes others, especially those who might seem different. By fostering empathy and respect, we can help create a school environment where every child feels safe, valued, and loved. In Magrid Learning Solution we believe in a generation that knows the power of kindness. 💛 #Parenting #BackToSchool #NoToBullying #KindnessMatters #InclusiveEducation #MagridLearningSolution

This year's #LearningDisabilityWeek theme of "Do you see me?" aims to celebrate what learning disabled people can bring to our society when they are seen, heard and valued. In her recent blog, our #ExpertsByExperience (EbEs) co-production service manager Suzie Crowter writes about what happens when "co-production" ends up mirroring the imbalances of power that learning disabled and #autistic people have experienced and are there to change. Suzie's examples of #coproduction bad practice: ❌ Agendas weighted in favour of professionals, with little time given to EBEs ❌ Pushing EbEs off the agenda to make space for other, ‘more important’ topics ❌ EbEs being asked to join a project last minute to sign off on decisions that have already been made without their involvement ❌ Meeting structures and documents full of jargon and inaccessible language. So how do we help steer boards and services towards real change? Suzie says: "A lot must be done to change power structures, and genuinely begin to share power in co-production. "We recruit EbEs into co-chair positions of boards so they have the power to control how that board runs and can set the agenda. "But it isn’t as simple as just recruiting an autistic or learning disabled person as co-chair of a meeting. "For power to truly be shared, structures need to adapt to be truly inclusive, and professionals need to change their practice and share their power." Read Suzie's blog on #power sharing, #SystemsChange and what it takes to go from 'Service User' (not a term she subscribes to for its implications of passivity) to 'Expert by Experience'. #Blog link in comments 👇 We hope it offers some food for thought in a week about recognising learning disabled people's valuable stories and experiences and the barriers that still stand in their way of contributing fully to our diverse world. 📷 credit: Staffordshire County Council Co-production Toolkit. #ShiftingPower #WeAreGrapevine #Coventry #Warwickshire
