Biomethane in the EU shows a 37% increase in capacity. This shows the direction to follow in Latin America According to Pierre Duvieusart, sponsor of GAS INFRASTRUCTURE EUROPE GIE) and member of the GIE board of directors, biomethane is today's green solution. Gas infrastructure operators celebrate this 37% increase and will continue to promote their development. "The synergies of natural gas and biomethane are invaluable on a technical, economic and political level. This makes this renewable gas suitable for current gas infrastructure and for our customers. With supportive policies and collective efforts, we can help sectors decarbonize quickly and cost-effectively, while avoiding stranded assets.” This shows an invaluable opportunity to develop biogas in Latam, which has broad potential in agriculture. The European Biomethane Map 2024 reveals a 37% increase in biomethane capacity in the EU, reaching 6.4 billion cubic meters per year, with 81% of this capacity in EU countries. This growth helps avoid nearly 29 million tons of CO2 emissions annually, produces 830,000 tons of organic fertilizer, and provides renewable energy to 5 million households or fuels 145,000 bio-LNG vehicles. The number of biomethane plants increased by 32% to 1,548, with over 80% connected to the gas grid. France and Italy saw significant capacity increases, while Germany remains the top producer. The sector aligns with REPowerEU 2030 goals, with €25 billion secured for 950 new plants. Supportive policies and administrative simplifications are crucial for continued progress. #Biomethane #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #ClimateAction #EU #GreenEnergy #EnergySecurity #CO2Reduction #Biogas #OrganicFertilizer #REPowerEU #EnergyTransition #Europe #PrivateInvestment #GasInfrastructure #CleanEnergy #EnvironmentalImpact #EBA #GIE #Innovation #EnergyEfficiency https://lnkd.in/dFBK3irn

The EU's 2030 climate target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by at least 55%, relative to 1990, is supported by the increasing demand for gas and subsequent replacement renewable gases, such as biomethane. The REPowerEU plan is targeting to produce 35 billion cubic meters (bcm) of biomethane annually in the EU by 2030, that is a ten-fold increase on todays production. Follow the European Biogas Association's article to read more on the potential of sustainable biomethane. #biogas #renewableenergy #biomethane

As the renewable energy transition gathers pace and the realisation that 2030 is fast approaching sinks in, biomethane is emerging as a vital piece of the puzzle. In this study, we have investigated how the costs and carbon savings of injecting biomethane into the natural gas grid stack up for different degrees of centralisation of biomethane processing plants and the co-digestion of different types of agricultural feedstock for a case study in Griffith, Australia. The paper is open access, so please have a look. Hosseini T., Culley S.A.., Zecchin A., Maier H.R. and Ashman P.J. So much to like in this latest report from The Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA) 👏 It describes the key role (IMO) of AD in producing biomethane to displace methane and provide a low carbon back-up fuel to support increasing renewable electricity capacity and provide system stability. It importantly highlights the need for more information on feedstock supply, at NNFCC The Bioeconomy Consultants we have a track record of working with project developers to assess feedstock availability and ensure project viability. We're constantly refining our databases and understanding of market dynamics to provide clear and meaningful feedstock data. I'm pleased to see the need for biomethane in industrial applications recognised, the use of significant quantities of methane as a chemical raw material is an obvious industry blind spot. The role of hydrogen is debatable but this may say more about government policies than the thinking behind this report. As the report states, this is just an opening piece of analysis. As a long standing supporter of the AD industry, NNFCC The Bioeconomy Consultants look forward to supporting its development. https://lnkd.in/gHsvcdaN #AD #biomethane #bioenergy #dunkelflaute #renewables

The European Environment Agency predicts that biowaste, mainly from food, could turn from a global problem into a new energy opportunity for the economy of the future. With recent government initiatives and increased investment in biogas projects in Europe, this waste could soon become a valuable energy source. Our experts have extensive experience in financing large projects in the energy sector, oil and gas sector, mining and processing of minerals, heavy industry, chemical industry, agriculture, tourism and other industries. Viola Funding Limited, offers long-term loans for large corporate clients starting from 50 million euros and above for Investment in biogas projects in Europe. According to Eurostat, EU municipalities generated around 250 million tonnes of waste in 2019. The EU discards up to 90 million tons of food, which corresponds to 20% of all food produced, which gave rise to Investment in biogas projects in Europe. By 2050, Investment in biogas projects in Europe will increase production of green gas by 10 times. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dGpkAV9x Be that as it may, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) expects bioenergy to grow 15 times between 2020 and 2050. Most of the investment projects in this area will be concentrated in the EU countries. We continue to advance in our decarbonisation strategy! 🌱 Proud to announce that we are going to promote a pioneering project for the capture and valorisation of biogenic CO2 in Puertollano (Ciudad Real) for the production of renewable fuels 🚀♻️. Biollano, our 50 MW renewable biomass generation plant, will become a reference hub in the production of renewable fuels 💡🌱. We share with you some of its milestones: • The plant valorises nearly 330,000 tonnes/year of local agroforestry remains 🌾, contributing to local development 🤝. • Biogenic CO2 contributes to decarbonising sectors that are difficult to electrify, such as aeronautics ✈️ or maritime 🚢. Read my article in ET: The emissions saved from a certified biogas project can be claimed as carbon credits. Businesses can then purchase these credits and the project can be refinanced. Sistema.bio is successfully solving this puzzle for the voluntary carbon markets which was in need of standardization, integrity, and transparency.
