A thought provoking session today with Tania Lattanzio on continuous assessment. Key takeaways: - think like assessors, not lesson designers - it's time to interrogate the curriculum and our LOIs - linking a 'so what' into the third line of inquiry to promote and scaffold action - use of rubrics of understanding and class moderation to create assessment capable students.

Often times we focus improvement and accountability on student outcomes first without considering what might be behind a sudden decline in teacher effectiveness. Another great video by Evidence Based Education on ‘explaining’. ❗️❗️❗️ Maybe a teaching and learning method not always considered in a conceptual or philosophical framework, HOW to explain in a meaningful and engaging way is a real skill! In PSHE the way we approach curriculum development also supports explaining, as a Spiral curriculum model allows prior learning or knowledge to be activated to assist in explaining new ideas. Adaptive teaching and differentiation would also be key terms(?). 🧠✨🧠✨🧠✨
Part of the skill of explaining is connecting new ideas to prior knowledge. Professor Stuart Kime unpacks the explaining element of the Model for Great Teaching in this video.
