As shared in our recent communications, we have been closely monitoring the negotiations between the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) and the US Maritime Alliance (USMX) on a new master agreement. Unfortunately, these negotiations have stalled, and industrial action has now commenced across US East Coast ports. 🔍 What This Means: 📦 Bookings & Schedules: There may be sudden changes to service rotations or booking statuses without prior notice. Dangerous goods and refrigerated container bookings are expected to be temporarily suspended. ⚠️ Force Majeure: If carriers declare Force Majeure, containers may be rerouted to alternate ports, with any additional on-carriage costs potentially falling to the account of the cargo. We are working with our carrier partners to gather further information. 💰 Port Congestion Surcharges: Several carriers have introduced surcharges ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 per FEU for cargo received at origin between October 11 and October 27. Adjustments to FAK rates and PSS charges may also be implemented. 20Cube Logistics Australia are closely monitoring this situation and will continue to keep our clients informed as new developments arise.

As the deadline approaches, trucking companies and freight rail operators are racing to manage billions in trade at 14 major U.S. ports. The International Longshoremen’s Association has indicated a potential strike starting at 12:01 a.m. ET on Tuesday, October 1, if a new contract isn't finalized with port management. Last week alone, these ports, including New York/New Jersey, Baltimore, Norfolk, Savannah, Miami, New Orleans, and Houston, saw nearly $14 billion in trade, with $2.7 billion arriving just on Friday.
