LiDAR technology is revolutionizing how we capture and analyze high-resolution spatial data, making it indispensable for various applications. I'm excited to share that I recently completed an online course on "LiDAR Data Processing and Applications" conducted by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS). I successfully scored a #gradeA in the exam at the end of the course. This comprehensive course provided me with a solid understanding of LiDAR technology, its applications, and hands-on experience in processing and analyzing LiDAR data. Key takeaways: The underlying principles of LiDAR technology and its advantages over traditional surveying techniques. Practical experience in using various software tools for processing and visualizing LiDAR data. The wide range of applications of LiDAR technology in fields such as forestry, urban planning, and disaster management. I'm grateful to Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) for this valuable learning opportunity, which has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to contribute to the growing field of LiDAR applications. #LiDAR #RemoteSensing #GIS #IIRS #SpatialData #DataAnalysis

This technology is very interesting since LiDAR problem is penetrating water bodies. Although it has the ability to penetrate water, its range is very shallow. I am very curious and interested on how the mechanics of the LiDAR and how accurate the depth that it can produce.

Have you seen the news that a lost Mayan city has been discovered thanks to LiDAR data? And did you know that LiDAR data has helped discover previously hidden archeological sites in New Zealand too?! 🔎 High quality LiDAR data allows us to 'see through' and scan the shape of the land beneath dense vegetation using pulsed light sensors mounted on aircraft. These sensors measure the time it takes for the light to travel back and forth from the sensor to the ground, building a 3D perspective of the landscape 🏞️ LiDAR can provide researchers and archeologists with a new perspective on how the land was once used - it can show where buildings once stood, old terraces where food was once grown, even entry and exit points. These new clues help build a rich understanding of the land and its importance to early human history. Want to see some of Aotearoa's rediscovered archeological sites for yourself? 👀 Check out this interactive StoryMap that uncovers what was once hidden: https://lnkd.in/guBqJ5z8 Currently about 80% of New Zealand has been captured by LiDAR and the data can be downloaded for free from the LINZ Data Service. Learn more about LiDAR and the elevation data we provide on our website: https://lnkd.in/griu7ggV And if you haven't seen the lost Mayan city story, read it here: https://lnkd.in/ghfjeGeG

Paper alert 📢: Vertical surface change signals of rock glaciers: combining UAV and Pléiades imagery (Agua Negra, Argentina), https://lnkd.in/e3Yb3AbF Accessing rock glaciers in high mountain settings like the Dry Andes for conducting UAV surveys is not always possible. How do satellite-based results compare to the UAV based results when calculating rock glacier surface change over time? Can we resolve the geomorphological processes we are interested in when using Pleiades satellite imagery? Which impact has the choice of processing strategy on the outcome? Check out all answers in our full conference paper published in the proceedings of this years International Conference on Permafrost (ICOP) which I attended two weeks ago in Whitehorse, Canada.
